Help T-Mobile Repair - advice reqd

mju1875

Lurker
I have a faulty DHD - the volume up does not work.

As it is still under warranty I sent this off to get fixed. My network provider (TMobile) outsource all their repairs to an independent firm and they have advised me that they cannot repair it as there is water damage and are returning to Tmobile, who in turn will send onto me.

I have taken great care with this phone but on one or two occasions have been caught in heavy rainshowers and can only think this is where the damage has been done.

The question I have is, when TMobile contact me to advise my handset is ready for collection from the local shop to advise where do I stand or do I have any rights to get them to own this issue?

I can probably workaround the volume up issue using an app but this is not ideal.

Silly question, but is it covered by insurance? Ok, you may have to pay the excess... but worth checking about your insurance - accidental damage?

I don't have seperate mobile insurance, I doubt it will be covered with my normal contents insurance (although I will check). I am really trying to find out if anyone has similar experiences when a repair is rejected due to water damage. Thanks.

Unfortunately and rightly or wrongly, the water damage indicators are a "Get out of Jail for free" card used by manufacturers (of all electrical goods, not just phones) and there's very little you can do to change their minds. If you can categorically confirm that the problem isn't as a result of water damage, you might get them to buckle, but there's a very small chance of that I'm afraid.

Fair enough... I don't know, but some banks have gadget insurance included... worth checking there too! Hope you get it sorted!!

Thanks for all the advice, worse case scenario I hope it holds together for another 6 months when my contract is up.

Just a further update.

Went along to the TMobile shop to pick up my unrepaired phone. I asked them to demonstrate it was being returned back in the same condition I left it. To my surprise the screen would not turn on now.

So it has been left at the shop, I am awaiting a call tomorrow to see what they will do about it. It was in good order (except the volume button) before it was sent to be repaired.
