T-mobile update for Vibrant Officially Available

Wow... A little defensive? Chip on the shoulder? Where's all the hostility coming from? "Compulsion?" I have no compulsion. Please don't take it personally. I was agreeing with you to an extent and sharing my decision about Dell products. Perhaps I should have given more detail.

I spent days trying to load a new version of Windows on a Dell. I called Dell tech support and Microsoft Level 3 tech support (Engineering level) and no one was able to offer a solution. Finally, I woke up in the middle of the night and said to my wife, "I know how to do it!" I was finally able to load the OS but had to do it in a multi-step process. This was not the case on any other computer I upgraded and there were issues with other software as well. Since that time I have avoided Dell and been better off for it. Glad to read that you don't patronize them either.

I'm just saying that Dell PC's could be a factor in upgrading with Kies Mini. I have no recent experience with Dell, one way or the other.

Also try Samsung GPS Restore in the Market. It worked for me, and from many comments left, it seems to help.

True enough pre-2.2 update. But for me, I tried the GPS Restore post-Froyo and it did nothing. YMMV so try the GPS Restore first anyway, it can't hurt.

I really hated the idea of doing a factory reset so I tried everything else first. Finally, did the factory reset and it was like night and day.

Hi guys im a bit of a newbie I just was wondering with this new 2.2 tmobile update would it interfere with my Barnacles wifi tethering?

More likely it's an issue with Dell. I've had numerous issues in the past with Dell computers and their proprietary architecture. Even with Windows upgrades! :(

It don't believe it's so much the Dell as Windows 7 64bit. Mine wouldn't even see my phone until I did the whole shh-bang on a Vista 64bit drive.
Even then it soft-bricked my phone. Got to the end of the update and said it failed. I had a task killer in there that probably interfered in some way. Samsung has it now.
My local T-Mo store is doing the update for free and says they haven't had a prob. They're running XP 32bit, wonder if there's a connection... :O)

After going through the full upgrade process I run into the following Upgrade Status window:

SGH-T959 Could not be upgraded
1. DEtach and Reattach the mobile phone's battery.
2. Reboot the Mobile phone and try upgrade again.

After a few tries I'm still getting the same message. Any ideas?

That explains it. My husband has a Dell and I can't get Mini Kies to work on it. I have a Mac so.... I am stuck on 2.1.

Dumb question... by reading that link it says you have to do it yourself and it's not a OTA. Does this mean it will NEVER be a OTA?

How long does it take to upgrade if everything goes the way it should?

I wouldn't say "never", but I highly doubt that it will ever be OTA.
I should take about 10 minutes or less if everything goes well.

I have tried atleast 12 times to install the 2.2 upgrade and it has not worked. I downloaded Kies Mini and installed it. That went just fine. It installed the drivers. That went fine. I followed every instruction for the upgrade to 2.2. Kies Mini starts up, I do the "I Agree", it downloads the upgrade just fine. But when Kies Mini starts to install it onto the phone, the phone display changes to a yellow android and it says "Do not turn off target" and then a couple of seconds later in the lower right hand corner of my computer screen I see "Device not recognized" and then the phone freezes and I have to unplug it and remove the battery. Does anyone have a suggestion for fixing this? I want the upgrade more than anything but it is just not working for me. Thanks in advance for your help.

I know this thread is an old one, but I purchased a used Vibrant a few months ago running 2.1. I then updated it to 2.2 (with no problems thank God) and it...slooowweedd down.

The quick phone is now laggy, response time is slow and my battery life is aweful! It's like I need to carry a charger with me.

I have saved pics, music and most games to the SD card and even taken off the live wallpaper and am using a static pic for it. What am I doing wrong???

Any responses would be appreciated!

Master reset, then run the battery right down to zero . Sometimes thats what it takes on some of these phones. The phone incorrectly reading the battery life is a common problem after the OS update.
