Help Tablet Idle: Major battery drain

I've noticed that my N7 will last on average a day after being fully charged and sitting with WiFi off. The battery usage shows "tablet idle" as using 80% of the battery with a time on of: 1d 9h 56s.

I literally took it off the charger yesterday morning, packed it (WiFi off) went on a day trip, came back today and battery was under 10%. I didn't use it once while on my trip. Anyone know what this could be, or why?

That's def not normal

Im on day 4 of my 2012 nexus 7 and I still have 54% left.

I'd suggest installing an app like gsam battery monitor, charging it up, and then leaving it alone again. If you report back what that finds when its discharged we'll have a better idea

I had the same problem, very high battery drain whilst idle. After looking around on various forums the advice was to delete the cache and if you have Skype installed unistall it. I have done both and now my battery drain is back to normal ie 3 days of use. There is a know problem of Skype draining the battery on the N5 with the recent update and it also causes a problem for some on the N7

I have Skype installed, no problems. But I do not stay online Skype when not in use.
I also WiFi off when tab on standby and get excellent battery life.

Battery drain in Idle state is a known factor in Android phones,
The reason is that apps can freely consume your phone resources whenever they want,

Although, Google is trying to shrink the usage of "wakelock" in newer versions, it is still available to app developers to keep your phone active anytime.

If your Nexus 7 is Rooted, then you can check for wakelock statistics with "Wakelock detector" app available in GooglePlay.

If you don't have ROOT access, then you will be able to see only Kernel wakelocks.
Google has restricted permission to see other wakelock stats starting from Android KitKat
