tablet selection help

Ok I've read a bunch of the forums on the tablets. All it did was make me more confused.

Basically I went from a low end android phone to a galaxy s phone so I know what a difference there is a low end from higher end device.

I'm not totally sold on the tablet world but I do see purpose for them. I'm my son's little league coach this year and have a spreadsheet for roster/batting order/schedule's etc. I could also use it monitor at bats and on base average etc.

On top of that I'm going to Europe for a 10 day trip. Obviously my cell phone isn't going to work there(well maybe wifi only). I have a 'dare i say it' ipod touch that would work as well but there's a big difference between a 4" and 7-10" screen. So far the flights and bus/train time while I tour the country a tablet would be nice for entertaining myself as we cruise around between stops.

So with all the manufacturer's and different equipment out there I don't know which way to go.

I've looked at the nook color. Feels nice and sturdy but needs rooting to be useful. Haven't rooted anything ever so unless it's super easy i'm afraid to brick the device without recovering.

The archos and coby models seem ok and are lightly priced so if it get's lost or just doesn't do it for me i won't be out much.

The slew of chinese ones(flytouch3) seem decent albeit seem like they're not the most durable but seem to suffer from poor battery life.

so what do you own/have you tried in the 200-250 range and been pleased with?

I know, a lot of this will be opinion based but I'm asking for opinions so that's ok

there are many great android devices out there but for your price range I would reccommend the apad 2. It is cheaply priced and is well worth the money. there is a review of it here DroidChest

For your price range, your best option is the nook color. If your afraid to root, no worries because the nook color forum here is filled with a lot of helpful members. Trust me, you're not the first person who has said that they are afraid of rooting but found out it wasn't that bad.

played with the nook color over the weekend and found it to feel pretty nice in the hands. Wish i could handle the apad/flytouch first as well. Those have been my top leaders as well as the Coby.

This is one of those too many choices here to make it an easy decision.
