Help Tablet sometimes thinks USB is plugged in when it clearly isn't.

Sometimes, I get the USB icon in the notification tray and the tablet "thinks" USB is plugged in when it clearly isn't. And the screen doesn't go off as a consequence. What gives?

Not sure if it's related but when this started happening, on occasion (maybe 10% of the time), my tablet doesn't charge when actually the charging cable is plugged in. I might plug it in to charge at night and it actually starts charging but when I go pick it up in the morning, it's not being charged and the battery capacity has only increased a few % (if at all) meaning the charging stopped some time in the middle of the night.

Hello? Any ideas????

The tablet seems to think a USB cable is connected when clearly none is plugged in whenever I gently knock the back of the tablet or it's subjected to any moderate vibration. This causes the screen to come on and cause the battery to drain when the tablet sits idle. For some time, I've been baffled by the sudden reduction of battery life but now I found a probable cause. Next step, is there any solution?
