Tablets: iPad 2 v Android

Things have changed a bit and every week, something new is announced.

And there were no comparable tablets when I went iPad. The latest version has a faster processor, better battery life, and it is smaller. None of which means much to me.

Bob

So they were no comparable tablets. Much different than what you said previously.

I thought I was clear, not sure what you think I said. So, let us try this just to be clear.

Yes, there were other tablets available. Nothing locally, but yes, tablets abound. I needed a tablet, so I grabbed a stack of C-Notes and went shopping.

I found the iPad and as far as my needs were concerned, there were no other tablets worth considering. So I went to the orchard and picked an Apple. Because it was Insanely Great.

As I type this, there are no other tablets on the market. Xoom is on the market, but it is a no show compared to the iPad. And I love Android but not enough to spend cash on what is currently offered. I think the Xoom is cool, but unavailable as far as I can tell. It matters little because I'll keep my iPad for a few years no matter what arrives.

Yes you can purchase a tablet but not like the iPad, for my specific needs and requirements.

Are we clear?

That said, I had a look at their new magnetic covers. I dismissed them at first until I discovered that when you close the cover, the iPad shuts off and when you open it, the iPad comes alive. A little thing, but very cool and very Apple like in my view.

As Jobs said, this is the year of copycats. Apparently Apple copied the magnetic cover shut off feature from my BlackBerry phone. When I put the phone into my holster which as a magnetic flap, the BB phone senses that it is in a holster and shuts off the screen.

I do find the fact that the cover can be used as a stand to be a very cool design.

It really bothers me that non of the Android Tablet manufacturers have release anything close to a timeline to let consumers know when they will be able to purchase their products. I have said all sort of bad stuff about Apple, I have gotten quite a few people to switch to Android phones, but when it comes to the details we are beat. G-Slate, wifi xoom???? Where are they? When are they coming out? I have $600 in hand right now ready to go to the pockets of any manufacturer who can release a decent wifi tablet. Please don't make me purchase an iPad 2
<flame away>
Of course no iPad, it's just an over sized iPhone :-)
I've got the iPad mini (iPhone). I love it, but I just hate iTunes.

Just like you, I've been waiting for a decent Android pad for sometime. WePad looked promising to me last year. It turned out to a flop. Last Christmas I saw there was no point to wait. So I bought Flytouch 2. I know it's not a quality pad. But I just want it to bridge the waiting time.

I'm having registration code and battery issues with my SuperPAD. But I'm still glad that I don't have an iPad and it makes me happier while waiting :D

Golly sakes.

You dont want the iPad, so you buy a Flytouch knowing it is not high in quality, and you are now saying your SuperPad is crap, and remain happy you did not buy an iPad?

OK then.

nice discussion.

the xoom has had two discounts pass by.. one for 25% off and one for 100 dollars off.

there is a wifi only version due out in spring for less than 600 USD.

you can sign a 2 yr contract with verizon, get the smallest gb plan and pay 600 for the xoom now.

the flypad2 is an awesome device. apple started this trend... android will carry it to the next level...
