Help Talk me out of taking this phone back. I'm right on the edge.

Sadly, I'm afraid I'm going to have to eat $35 and take this phone back. I just can't go back to being tethered to a cable all the time like I was with my DInc.

I'm willing to make some compromises like charging when I'm in the car and using 3G for background data and 4G for data hungry apps, but I can't find a way to do that automatically. I'm still looking into it though. If I can find a way to toggle LTE off/on based on what app I'm using AND that drastically improves battery, I'm happy. Background syncing doesn't need 4G, neither do most of the apps I use.
Sounds like if battery life is a number one priority you should get the Razr Maxx,i for 1 will take a reliable phone that works when needed over battery life anyday.what sells me on an android phone is how well the radios work and so far the rezound has not failed me.

IME a phone does not work when the battery is dead.

That's a given that is why you either buy an extended battery or a spare battery, not to many high end modern 4G android phones have great battery life, but that is something you should know before buying it,like i said at least there are options, unlike when your service drops in and out or the phone freezes or reboots for no reason like plenty of Android phones.

But getting the OTA update doesn't delete all your apps. Replacement time.
Also, if you are going to root, custom ROMs and kernels can help you get better, sometimes much better, battery life. I've seen reports of people getting 20 hours or more with moderate usage. ymmv, but even with streaming that would get you through the day.

I'm strongly leaning toward taking it back right now. I may take it back today.

I think you may be right. While it doesn't appear the phone is defective, it may not be the phone for you. If you can, get your upgrade back. I'm sure newer phones coming will compensate for the increase battery demand presented by 4G and larger screens. Hopefully one with a nice Sense UI that you are so fond of.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the phone. It's just not a good fit for me. The battery life is the killer for me. I found a Sense 3.5 ROM for the DInc2. I can live without 4G I guess until something better comes along. I was tethered to a charger all the time with my DInc and felt like I didn't really have a cell phone. I've come to enjoy not being tied to a charger.

A. Non:

Ya know, when I first saw your thread about possibly getting this phone, asking about the cons, I never mentioned the getting stuck in 1x issue I and some others were/are having. I shoulda mentioned it.

My getting stuck in 1x happened at times there were no outages, happened at times when my RAZR right next to me was sitting on 4G. I will be out today, I might as well try to exchange it to see if it helps.

What hasnt changed yet....all these phones have pros n cons. And whatever phone you get, 3G or 4G...if it isnt having any major or real annoying problems...be happy with what you got. And hope you can go back to it if your next phones doesnt deliver on your wants n needs.

Its sounds like you made up your mind already from the get-go.

Like what previous posters mentioned, unfortunately w/ 4g phones-w/ the exception of the latest Motorola RAZR MAXX you will be dealing w/ battery issues. There are ways to go around it like an extended battery, not using 4g or BT when not needed, rooting, etc....Why give up such a great phone when there's ways to try to fix it?

Good luck to you and hopefully you will find another phone that will satisfy your needs.

I took it back yesterday. The fixes seem silly. I bought a 4G phone but I'm not supposed to use it on 4G. That doesn't seem like ridiculous advice to you? It's BT capable, but I'm not supposed to use it with BT?? Again why?

I love mine to death, and have never had any of the issues mentioned here or in a lot of places. I purchased mine November 5th and the only complaint I have is the barrel roll. I prefer the old style of Sense that my Eris had. Now if I try to whip to a screen, I feel like I'm in the Showcase Showdown on The Price is Right.

I love the battery of the Maxx, but I've heard too much about black screens of death with the Bionic and Razr to get one. It's too flat for my taste, like a regular phone made of play doh all mooshed down to a little cracker-like size. I like the form factor of the Rezound, it fits me well. I think any Amoled screen exxaggurates the colors, making them over the top vibrant so that other other screens look dull. I don't trust not being able to do a battery pull, and Motorola hasn't truly impressed me since the OG Droid. I go back and forth between the stock and extended battery on my Rezound, not sure what, if any data settings to change. It's too bad you had to take it back, but as we all have different tastes, it just sounds like it wasn't what you really wanted. Hopefully you can find something that fits your needs better soon!

Honestly, the only thing I don't like about it is the battery life. Everything else about the phone I love. I think I'll wait until the next gen HTC phone and see if the battery life improves. The DInc had awful battery life and I spent a year and three quarters dealing with it. The DInc2 has good battery life. I have hopes the Rezound 2 or the DInc 3 or whatever they call it will improve battery life.

I say go ahead and grab anther phone, but the other phones will pose their own problems, sensitivity issues with the Nexus, the Razr doesn't have the 720p screen and has a permanent battery. I say go ahead and exchange your phone, but be warned, you'll probably get another phone and realize that you could live with the Rezound's battery life when in comparison to the other device's quirks.

I agree,i am very happy that the only issue is a weak battery life, something HTC is known for,i have had other Android phones that i had to spend hours chasing bugs, and nearly unusable with the Stock Rom.

Not saying you're not supposed to use it on 4G or BT but these are suggestions to turn them off when you're not using it to save battery life.

As I said, I'm always using BT so turning it off kills the functionality of the phone for me. Toggling between 4G and 3G is a PITA and still raises the question of why I would get a 4G phone if I'm only going to use it primarily on 3G. I already have a 3G phone. If there was some way to easily toggle LTE on/off, then I'm willing to set up Tasker to do just that. I don't need 4G for background syncing. But I don't think 4G is what is sucking my battery. I think it's the BT stuff.

In any case, I'm going to hold on to my DInc2 for the time being. There's nothing out there on VZW that intrigues me and really nothing out there on any other carrier either. The GNex is just too big. I don't think it has an SD slot either. The Razr and the Maxx don't have a removable battery which is a deal breaker. There's just nothing out there at the moment that really interests me TBH other than the Rezound.

Custom ROM With Custom Kernel = 20hours on battery here.

Running ICS Cleanrom ;)

I'm past my custom ROM days. At least I don't run them on any of my "production" devices. I run custom ROMs on my older stuff so I can play around with them, but not my daily devices.

I'm trying to think of ways I could actually make this phone work. I could change the way I do things and use wired headphones and no streaming. I could put chargers everywhere and constantly plug cables into the darn thing. I could put a wireless charging backplate on it, buy wireless chargers and put them everywhere so I never have to plug into anything and I'm always plugged into a charger. I could turn 4G off on the phone altogether. None of these appeal to me. Does anyone have any other ideas?

If you're always in front of a computer, why not plug into the USB port to charge the phone, and while you're at it, use the Internet Pass-through feature for internet?

I did that with the DInc, but I've gotten spoiled by my DInc2. It charges wirelessly and I never have to plug cables into it. The wireless charger is at home. I can easily get 12-15 hours on a charge. I drop it on the wireless charger when I go to bed. I've been 8.5 hours on the battery so far today. I've done BT streaming for at least 4-5 of those hours. My battery is at 41% right now. That's the kind of life I need out of my next phone regardless of what it is. I can get another 3-4 hours out of my phone streaming right now. I'll go home and it'll sit on wifi and not do much until bedtime as I'll be screwing around on the computer. I'll toss it on the charger when I go to bed and repeat the process tomorrow.

This is my favorite phone. By far. My only complaint....if it were only the size of the Note. I'm on this thing so much and with the screen resolution I use it like a mini tablet. 4g is remarkable for me, especially in comparison to my previous phone. It is on all the time and with the extended battery I never have to worry about juice.

I'm back on my extended battery again also. I keep data on, I just turned off "always on data", and I only drop a couple percent per hour not using it, without shutting off data completely, with or without an app like juice defender.

Why have a smart phone if you're not going to use data is my argument.
