Help Talktalk email problems

Aha thanks. I hadn't opened the email from google to validate - saw the title; 'Gmail Confirmation - Send Mail as ...' and thought it was just that, confirmation that it had changed. My fault.
I've clicked on the link and logged into my Gmail account on my PC and a dropdown box appears at the top of the compose screen where I can choose to send from my Gmail address or my talktalk address, but not on my phone. If I go into accounts only my Gmail account is there, do I need to add my talktalk account?

Worried about messing up what is working at the moment!

EDIT: Tried adding another account and it seems only to want to add another google account?

Hi,

I am using the phones e mail, not gmail, although I do have both my talktalk and gmail going into this.

I used the following settings and all e mails look like they are sent from my talktalk account.

-I then went to the e mail settings on my phone,
-I kept the pop.talktalk.net setting for incoming mail (including talktalk address and password).
-For the smtp settings, I entered;
-smtp.gmail.com
-selected 'security type' SSL
-'sever port' 465
-clicked the 'Login Required' and used my gmail account username and password

These settings are working for me over wifi and 3g without needing to change any settings.

Hope this helps.

What he said...
I'd been using the t-mobile smtp server for my Tiscali account, but the mobile signal at my home is totally pants, so it just didn't work very well. I'd not realised I could use the gmail smtp server. Thanks.
I've also setup the Tiscali address as a 'Send From' option in the gmail account thanks to this thread...

Just signed up after reading this thread - thanks to dwrleonard for the advice - just did exactly what was listed.
I was getting so annoyed at not being able to send emails from my HTC Desire with tiscali.
ALL SORTED NOW - thanks to dwr

Hi,

New kid on the Android block.

Ditto, got my pop3 email accounts sorted thanks to the wealth of knowledge on this great forum. Probl'y can't contribute much, but if you want some hi-tech RGB mood lighting then just let me know.:)

Funny how these issues continue to pop up. I don't email much from my Desire though do receive a lot. No problems with IMAP or Pop3 reception.
No problems sending IMAP either through my talktalk router or 3G.
I've found that if I use the outgoing Pop3 talktalk settings an email can take days to get from me to my dad half a mile away. This week I sent one on Tuesday; he received it yesterday. Odd.

I've also noticed that if I want to send an email from Pop3 using the T-mobile settings I have to turn off wi-fi and enable 3G. It should not be beyond HTC to have that done automatically.

Check post #52. Use the Gmail SMTP server for your outgoing mail to avoid this, I'm on T-M and also found it annoying constantly switching my WiFi off until doing this.

To be fair, it's not HTC's fault that T-Mobile (along with a lot of other providers) don't allow sending from external IP addresses. It's a security measure to try and avoid having their servers used for spoofing.

I'm having trouble sending emails from my talktalk account. When I type outgoing server smtp.talktalk.net I get the message that my server does not support authentication. Any ideas?

try this m8 i have done it on my wildfire and its ok . go thru the email settings as normal , type in smtp.talktalk etc ,then scroll up and uncheck the login box , you should then be set up ok

Just set up my gmail account and incoming/outgoing emails all ok now (via wifi or 3G) thanks to some very knowledgable members.

I can confirm these outgoing vodafone smtp's didn't work for me:

smtp.vizzavi.co.uk
smtp.send.vodafone.net
smtp.360.com

Many thanks.

I'd just like to add I've been using smtp.360.com for several months without issue.

I signed up for a 360 account - although i don't use it. The use my username and password to sign in. Outbound setting set to ssl on post 465.

Hope this helps

I am unable to send email from my HTC Desire HD phone although I am able to receive it. I have followed your advice to the letter ...changing the settings to the O2 -my server- when on 3G although on Wi Fi at home I am with Talk Talk. However, every time I do this, I am told that "changing the server will delete the current account". When I proceed, I am then told that "Authentication failed. Please verify your username and password." I am going round in circles and would really appreciate your help. I can receive emails fine. Thanks for your attention.
