Help Tap & Pay Function Gone

Ashalenko

Lurker
Hey, how are you? I'm using a Telstra (Aus) Galaxy S4, running KitKat (the leaked version that came out a few weeks ago). Prior to upgrading, I had tap and pay installed on my phone, that operated through the official app for my bank. When I upgraded, the app was still on my phone, and my card details still installed, app said tap & pay function was on and everything seemed fine. However when I go into NFC settings, it says no tap and pay services are installed. I tried uninstalling the app, and the card, but it still does not detect any card services. Any ideas or suggestions on what I could do to get the tap and pay function back on my phone? Thank you.

Hey, yeah, I'm in Aus and we don't have KitKat yet for OTA, so I downloaded the leaked version and flashed it onto the phone.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Ashalenko! :)

There could be a number of reasons that your banks app no longer functions on the leaked Telstra, KitKat, firmware...

1. Leaked firmwares are just that. They are not necessarily the finished, release, product and are for testing purposes.

2. KitKat has a new method of file handling as described in KitKat & SD cards explained.

3. The bank's app has not been updated to KitKat yet.

Unfortunately, once you have moved to KitKat, you cannot now revert to 4.3. You will therefore either need to wait until Telstra release their KitKat firmware and update via Odin, as Kies and OTA will probably not work on the leaked firmware. Contact your bank and see if there is an updated KitKat compatible version of the app available. Lastly, ensure that the bank app is on your internal memory and not using the external SD card.

Thank you, I figured that would be the case. So just confirming, when Telstra does release their KitKat update. If I download that and flash it onto the phone with Odin, there should be no issues? I know you can't 'update' to an older version, but there's no issue putting the same version on the phone?

No problem using the stock Samsung KitKat firmware and flashing via Odin. If you are rooted, you will lose root and have to re-root. Personally, I would do a Factory data reset and a wipe of internal and external memory before flashing the update... known as a vanilla install. That way you are not left with any detritus from previous firmwares.
