Help Task Killer or No?

yes paid apps are tied to your gmail so you will not have to repay for them. I'll give your app list a look thru and see if I find anything.

So if I paid for an app and uninstall it, would I be able to get it back without having to pay for it again? I would rather not do a factory reset. It took me forever to customize it the way I like and I don't want to have to do it all over again. If I uninstall apps and reinstall them one by one, I may be able to find one that's gone astray. I doubt that's the case because I don't see anything out of the ordinary running, either in "running services" or the ATK list.

If anyone knows enough about the apps out there, here is my list. Let me know if you see anything I should dump because of known issues, either battery drain or otherwise. THANKS!

I would check SF Baseball News and see how often it updates maybe scale it back if you can.

Weatherbug widget is known to drain battery.

beautiful live weather also can kill battery as with any other live wallpaper. You probably wouldn't see the actual app listed, but under battery usage details it would show display at a high %

battery left widgets of any kind are usually a drain on the battery as well (ironic i know)

not sure what weatherbug locator is or does, but based on its description it can definitely drain your battery.

I see a few games on the list. check what permissions they need as some of them keep your phone from sleeping.

I had sportstap and it KILLED my battery especially if you use the widget.

Espn scoreboard is similar to sportstap. again the app itself isn't that bad as long as the update schedule is at a reasonable time (ever 3 or 4 hours) the widgets are the biggest battery hogs

not sure if you use the widget for iheartradio but that killed my battery too. and when exiting make sure you back out of the app.

Thats all I can find and suggest.

Also you guys should check out this thread and see if the gps is draining your battery

Just reinstalled task killer. I do think it's useful to force kill buggy apps. Maybe it's because I'm constantly trying new things from the apps market. It's certainly not a battery drain. If you don't need it, who cares.. then don't use it.

Thanks for taking a look.
SF Baseball News ... won't update until I tell it, but I think I will remove. Not much value/content I can't find on my own.
Weatherbug ... I have it updating every 3 hours. (The locator part basically follows me from city to city, but I have it using the network and not GPS)
BW Live...don't use at the moment.
Battery Left...not that useful to be honest, may remove. I just like seeing the % left instead of the stock icon since it's hard to measure.
Games...will check their permissions.
ESPN...yes, I have a widget on my screen
Sportstap...used to have a widget until it stopped updating> Shud probably dump it and keep just ESPN.
iheartradio...haven't even opened the app yet

Since I paid for BW and I see it in Running Services all the time even if I don't have it active, if I uninstall it, will I be able to get it back w/o having to pay again? I haven't even picked a location since the update, so it's essetially blank...maybe updating the time???

If you uninstall BW I think you should be able to download it again at no cost. And even if weather bug isn't using GPS to follow your location its still keeping a connection open and that can drain battery as fast if not faster than GPS

Well, any weather apps you can suggest that don't suck the battery? I love having the weather at my fingertips, and from seeing all the screen shots on the forum, practically everyone uses one. Most are on BW, but I love how I can use WB with a transparent background and a really small widget. I used to have The Weather Channel, but got rid of that one as I heard that had a huge drain too.

When I received my first X, I used Task Killer for a couple of days, not knowing of Android's built-in program for discontinuing apps (I was coming from a Blackberry). I stopped using it and shortly after had to send for a replacement device.

When I received my second phone, it was one of the first things I installed, and I haven't looked back. I will admit, the built-in task killer operation is great to have, but I have noticed my battery running longer since I was able to start manually killing any and all apps running in the background.

I think the performance increase is marginal, but for those of us who are on the go and away from a power source, the extra juice isn't such a bad thing.

lol, no but I would suggest getting rid of the locator atleast. There is a fine line in keeping the functionality that you want and maintaining battery life you expect. I wish I had a perfect solution for everyone. I have yet to find one myself.

Damn! Well, trial and error I suppose. So I went thru my games and found a couple that "Read phone state and identity" and "prevent phone from sleeping" so they went the way of the DoDo bird...extinct! I assume they prevent sleep mode only if they aren't exited, but I didn't like how they need my phone info.

Your apps are connected to your Google account, so even if you were to buy another Android phone, you can log onto your Google account then go to the Market to download apps you already paid for.

I like the Beautiful Weather app. Accuracy seems to be corrected with the last update. I turned off animations and set it to Beautiful Small Home Weather, so it is less of a battery hog.

The only apps to be wary of when it comes to the battery are ones that need to be updated like the weather, Facebook/e-mail, sports tickers, news, etc. But as long as you set them to network (not GPS) and have them refresh every hour or 2 hours, you should be ok. You can manually refresh as well. ATK is just a good way to see what is running. There were a couple times I left Trapster running (which needs GPS & battery hog). I open ATK periodically and saw it running, so I closed that app and turned off GPS.

Thanks for the info. I have heard that switching phones will carry over apps, but if I physically choose to uninstall one, will I get it back when I want? I hate that it's updating when I don't even use it. Also noticed the stock weather app is always restarted even if that one isn't being used either.

It keeps a connection open 24/7 even when you tell it to only update the weather info every 30 minutes? Any clue on a good weather app that actually follows what its settings are, then?

Yeah I was getting some crappy battery life when I had my WeatherBug widget running. I got rid of it and things have improved quite significantly.
