Help task killer suggestions for newbies

i have my droid x and ive been reading some of the droid x problems and stuff unfortunetly i was one of the few to have a restarting droid x, which i just traded in so hopefully its all good now. ive used most of the free task killers, them being task killer, task killer pro, advanced task killer, advanced task killer pro, whats the best task killer that has an auto kill that actually works? it seems like everytime i set the settings to auto kill it never does, manually killing works and can kill the app from anywhere from 3-7 minutes and it def saves my battery but the preinstalled apps always come back up and i never see them die from auto kill, so the question remains, whats a good task killer for the droid x, i mainly used the pro task killer and from what i read on the app store comments it seemed to be the most praised of the free task killers, i would be fine with paying for the task killer if it actually worked.help!?

I don't use any task killers. You don't need them. When an app isn't being used it goes to "sleep" or in ready mode. That way it can pull up faster when you call it next time, but doesn't use the CPU. When Android needs more RAM then it kills it for you. I used a task killer on my Eris for awhile and didn't notice a difference. Had one on my X for a day and didn't notice anything so I uninstalled it.
 
DO NOT USE THEM!! The reason that you see items showing up over and over is because that is how Android OS is designed. It caches in memory. Every time you kill something, Android just starts it up again. This uses more battery than just leaving things the way they are. Task Killers are useful if you have an app that is locking up or otherwise causing issues, but in general they should not be used by default.

I never used it till i started getting the laggy slowdowns while typing and it seems to help it...
 
I wish employees working at the Verizon Wireless stores were aware of how the OS functions. Their first suggestion to anybody asking about battery issues is to install ATK.
 
technically you only need a task killer if the app you are using was badly coded and doesnt properly go into the sleep state. a nice one that you could use though is SystemPanelLite Task Manager.
 
from what it sounds like having it installed on ur phone doesnt really effect the phone, but closing apps alot is pointless since they restart but when they are up they are in "sleep mode" also, mainly using apps that dont properly go into sleep mode which does can kill that battery so using the task killer to kill those apps would make more sense. so what i think i should do is set download an app killer but select "ignore" to the normal apps that are up like the amazon and skype apps, ect ect since they will always be up but will be in sleep mode and use the app killer to kill things like my xbox live friends list, web, aim, facebook, ect ectdoes that sound like a good idea?

It was your use of task killers that was probably causing your issues.

(Man sure are a lot of task killer thread lately)

To answer your question NONE is the best.

And then they have to give out replacements becasue the user auto kills EVERYTHING and their phones start rebooting. LOL dummies.

NO
If you use the back arrow to back out of those apps they are asleep if you use Home to exit then YOU left them running and even then if they aren't doing anything ,like downloading a web page, they are suspended. If you really have an app that doesn't let your phone sleep get rid of it.
 
Ok if there so bad why do they help when i get slowdowns....i wish everyone wold stop saying what everyone else says so dam annoying....its like playing follow the leader....if it works for some people and solves there problems stop freekin sayin you dont need it.....
 
Ok i get it that i should not use one. But i do have one last question. If they are so bad why do people praise them so much and everyone i know with a droid phone has them then and all i hear is how it extends batery life. All the comments on the app comments list pretty much say they are good or just don't work. Its really contradictory.

Because some people think we live in a perfect world with perfect operating systems and perfect applications. Yes Android was designed so that it will handle resource re/allocations so the user doesn't have to worry about closing applications. Does that mean it does that job perfectly? Of course not. Do application developers write and release buggy code? All the time. From that seemingly harmless wallpaper app that is stealing your personal data or the Facebook app that wouldn't let phone's sleep properly to save battery. So it is a fact of life that task killers have a use. Just don't misuse them by setting them to auto kill on extreme.
 
The DX is the first Android phone that I have ever had and since launch day, I have not had a task killer of any kind on it and it runs perfectly. Sure, there is a learning curve but you learn from reading all these posts.
I would say don't install a task killer.
 
I don't use a task killer. I've read a lot about them and come to the conclusion (which many disagree with lol!) that they are not necessary and perhaps bad for your phone if not used correctly. To prevent some of the lag issues that others site, I restart my phone each morning. It's a habit that I developed with the Eris and I continue with the DX. I experience 0 lag on this phone.

I am an ATK user, however I do not go on an app killing spree. For the most part, I just let things sleep in the background. The only time I really use it is for buggy apps that lag while in use or lag the phone overall. There are times when I actually do force kill almost everything because my phone is being laggy, but this is rare. I suppose I could just go straight to an app I think is causing the lag and kill it, but ATK makes things quick and easy. Another thing, I set my ATK so that it doesn't Auto Kill anything.. meaning I manually kill apps. Once you have ATK Auto Kill apps on its own (every hour or every 3 hours), that is when you run into issues since it is simply overkill.

And it doesn't even have to be ATK that you use. It can be just a simple force closs app. For those that say it is absolutely useless simply ignore some its simple useful feature.

Because apps are buggy.. and create lag. But you already know this. As long as you force close problematic apps (which should probably be removed) instead of wiping everything, ATK is nice to have.
