Why does task manager show half as much ram available than if you go into application settings and check running apps?

I was just looking at this, last I checked 1gb weas 1024mb...not 802mb. Even in running services page it doesnt show enough things using ram to total the amount being used currently.

The difference from 1024 to 817 is system used, so the balance is used for everything else, apps etc.
What I would like to know is if anyone else see's what I do and tell me why different free ram readings? Pull down status bar and hit quick settings tab. Right now it shows total memory 817mb, used 691mb, and 126mb free. Then go into settings open applications and hit the running apps and at the bottom left it says 228mb ram used and right lower corner it says 545mb ram free.

There's 1 GB of ram in silicon - and some of it gets siphoned off for direct port mapping so the phone can do its thing and then some gets siphoned off for direct memory access by the GPU (my HTPC video card does this same thing).
You will never get any two utilities to ever agree on how much ram is in your phone.
The utility itself runs in ram and is instantly changing the environment (read: free ram) it's running in.
It's all perfectly confusing until you think about it but it's all perfectly normal and working AOK.

So your saying the factory installed task manager showing nothing running and I have only 116mb ram free,and have used 700mb ram, thats normal. And in the running apps section where its showing all these apps are running and it shows I have over 500mb ram free and used 260mb ram. Thats normal. Both basically say I have the same amount of total ram.
Im sorry I don't see it. Huge discrepancy. Nobody else sees this? Which do I believe?
Don't take this as rude, I just want to know why one app shows I have used 700mb+ ram and the other shows I have only used 230mb of ram.
I also didn't ask about the system used, I thought I explained that it in the 3rd post.
