Root *Teach Me* Revert to V3, And Root, Then Flash Rooted V4 ROM.

"Don't rename anything. Just copy MegaLock.dll into the same folder as the LG Flash Tool, replacing the file that is already there."

So should I REMOVE the .dll file that's in there, because there is no file in there called MegaLock.dll to "replace". I don't understand this phase of this.

Also, I'm curious, why do you have to downgrade to V3 before installing the *modded* V4? Why not just install the modded V4 directly without having to go back and forth?

My phone is notifying me of yet another upgrade to LS740ZV4_08_to_ZV5_07 (which I will not do), I'll assume they'll be a modded version of this as well, or does it not really matter? I guess it doesn't unless there's a some kind of massive security hole.
Here is an updated guide. We do, in fact, have a rooted zv5 ROM, which is the target in the guide, but the links are down for the moment. I would recommend just deleting what you have downloaded from this thread and start fresh with the items in the new guide and wait for the zv5 links to be back up.

To address your questions, there is a modified megalock.dll that you have to use. It was not provided in the early guides, you had to go find it. This new guide does provide it.

For your question about downgrading, to install it, you would have to get access to fastboot or install a custom recovery, both of which require root. You can't root zv4 or zv5 with any of the one click or update.zip methods due to the secureboot software on this phone.

I'm no expert on this flashing tool but most all if not all (ADVANCED) flashing tools are originally for factory service centers, hence the need to add, or replace certain files.

(Typically when running a service center app the tech has to login in with his center centers ID, the info is sent to a validation server, the server checks the login info against a database of authorized users so certain key files in the app are modified or created to get around this login / validation requirement.)

Regarding the need to download to V3, it is my limited understanding and based upon using flashing devices in the past that a early version of firmware isn't "locked" in some manner and later ones are so you need to downgrade with a (ADVANCED) flashing tool, then flash the later version of firmware that has been modified to allow it to be rooted.

A early version may have a non-encrypted bootloader, later on the bootloader is encrypted so a earlier version must be flashed to the device if a modified version of the firmware can be flashed.

Something like that.

Oh, regarding certain phrases not making sense it's either a case that files mentioned as being present may indeed be present on the author's machine which has installed apps that you don't have present on your machine (yet in some cases), the author's primary language is not English, or just a plan typo snafu.
