This is in reference to the Samsung Galaxy S3

I have Cochlear Implants and when I use the telecoil setting I get so much static that I cant hear any voices, this is both in and out of the house. Never had this problem with my old Droid Charge. Is anyone else experiencing this ?

I did some searching on your issue and saw where different carriers showed the HAC rating for the S111 as M4 and T3.

One is led to believe that T3 should be ok. :confused: Obviously, your experience is different.

Have you had the phone long? I wonder if this is going to be common to all S3's or just the one you have, for some reason. Will the dealer you bought it from work with you on this? Maybe let you trade it for one that tests well?
 
Thank you so much for your reply and for the links to your research. I bought the phone at Costco , I may be up that way tomorrow, going to stop in and ask them about it

I know things like fluorescent lighting , fans and things around you that generate electric signals can cause the buzzing , sometimes with my Droid Charge I would have to go to a different room to use the phone with the telecoil setting but with the Galaxy S3 is a bit worse.
 
I hope they can work with you on this. Please let us know how it turns out. I know it is a pain in the neck for you but it has me curious!

Stopped in at Costco this morning and went to the Verizon booth, the kids sell phones and are not to Cochlear Implant savvy. But he let me try Galaxy S IIII demo and same thing, in telecoil I still had the interference. Both the S3 and S4 Galaxy are rated M4 and T3 for the telecoil, its good but can be better. This also may be related to the mix for the telecoil, if it was set to 100% telecoil than I would not be able to hear myself speak, so its mixture of Microphone and Telecoil and not sure of the ratio but I am going to bring this up next time I see my audiologist and thats not for another 3 months, but when I use my Droid with my implant set to Everyday hearing without the telecoil I can hear just fine. So right now I am fine with this, maybe in a few months with some tweeking by by audi it will fix it. I have the Nucleus Freedom Processors and sometime this summer I am going to upgrade to the Nucleus 6 family of processors and this may make a difference also.

I was looking at buying an S3 but after looking the posts I think I will give it a miss. I have a Nucleus implant which is designed to work with a T coil. They seem to have used all their bluetooth capability for the remote which is a pity. I was interested in the comment about Iphones. I thought they had no T rating

iPhones are T compatible, and have been so for a long time.
iPhone: Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC)

Sure it's a requirement in many countries that phones be T compatible, or that the manufacturer or supplier must state whether compatible or not, due to various accessibility laws.

There's something called sidetone in telephony. in that some of the microphone output is sent directly to the earpiece and the T coil. Basically because if phones didn't have sidetone, the phone might sound dead and disconnected, and there's an inclination for people to speak louder and shout.

However VOIP software like Skype, doesn't do sidetone AFAIK. Although you'll often hear an echo coming back from the other party. If I'm using Skype with full over the ears headphones, I can't hear myself speak, and so I'll keep one ear uncovered.
 
It appears that its the phone itself causing the interference in T mode, I live by the Long Island Sound and one morning after trying to figure this out I took a walk way out to the edge, no power polls, no electric lights or anything that would cause interference and I still got the buzz on T mode. Its a shame because other wise the S3 is the best phone i have had overall. Another way I found to get around this is I bought a ClearSounds Quattro Bluetooth Neckloop, when i pair it to my phone in T mode there is no interference at all.
