Root Temp root and s-off?

Forgive me for not doing a ton of research here but...is there no way to achieve s-off on this phone? Also, is there any other temporary root option that works on the Rezound besides HTC-dev?

in a word,no :(

no prollem on the research bro,i know youre busy in other forums

the rezound, evo 3d,and pretty much any new HTC phones are doing some very complex checks that has made s-off,next to impossible

basically: when the phone boots, something checks hboot for an htc signiture(prolly the radio). then,it checks the radio secure flag, and if it finds s-on,it checks the radio, and the status of locked/unlocked,fimrware versions, etc. if you try and put an unsigned hboot in place,it basically bricks the device instantly, with no recovery, since it basically kills the bootloader.

there does exist a signed eng s-off hboot, but no one has had any luck getting it onto a device that didnt come radio s-offed pre release,as the emmc is still write protected, and htcdev only allows access to system/boot/recovery.

some clever individual may find a way to sneek the s-off hboot onto the phone, but theres no gaurantee there wont be prollems then with the radio.

in a nutshell,we really need a radio s-off,but the radio secure flag is pretty heavily gaurded.

ive not been here long, either, but i do know that the ost recent OTA to fimrware 2.01.605.11 broke the temp root for those that were using that. ive recently discovered that fre3vo works to temp root the most recent thunderbolt OTA,so i may set my rezound back to stock and try that. ill report if it works. if it does, youll have to manually push/setup su and busybox and its affects will be lost on reboot. you can temp root and temp delete stuff, but it will all come back if it ever dies or you have to reboot it.

other than "voiding all or parts of your warranty" htc dev isnt so bad for advanced users(since kernels have to be flashed in fasboot),and is fine for those that just want to debloat and run rooted stock, and still recieve OTAs.

if wanting to debloat and flash a new kernel is the main objective,id reccomend not to permantly install the recovery. leave it stock so she can recieve OTAs,and not get tripped up. softboot the recovery to flsah superuser, and then just repeat that process after OTAs.

just holla if you need any more info for the wifes rezound :D

Thanks as always Scotty for the stellar write up. I just learned in 2 mins what it would have taken hours to figure out. Man it sounds like this thing is locked down like fort frickin Knox!

Well, I'll probably give it some time and hope for the best...like I'm sure the rest of y'all are doing. :(

Although lemme know if that new temp root pans out. I don't want to use HTC dev on her phone. The minute she needs another refurb and gets denied I'll be the scapegoat. I'm willing to throw all my phones to the wolves but she's a force to be reckoned with when she wants to be. :D

lol i feel ya there... if i were to goof up my GFs phone id be in big trouble.

i definately wont criticize anyone that doesnt want to htcdev unlock. the phone is still fun to mess with, without a full s-off,but no one has any idea how warrantys on relocked phones will be handled.

with s-on, the minute you unlock, youre at their mercy,as your unlock token is based on your phone.i.e. HTC prolly has your serial number, etc. on record if someone cares to dig and look for it. even if none of this info is derived or kept from your unlock token, your bootloader will never just be locked again. even if you relock and run an RUU to go back to stock, youll have that crimson heart beating under the floor in the form of a relocked bootloader that anyone can check at any time and use that info in deciding your warranty elegibility

i got my rezound used,so it has no fasctory warranty anyway. and if i have to make an assurion claim, they dont care if its locked or not ;)
