Root temprooting

hi all,

had a rooted DHD, which got messed up and sent back to vodafone for repairs. on getting it back, i can see that theyve ruined my handywork and put it back to stock. im actually considering not rooting at the minute, just wanted to know if it was still possible to temproot like we used to through visionary + to remove some bloatware.

is this still possible? i think visionarys either been taken off the market or theyve stopped making it (shows how long ago i first got root)

thanks,
sandeep

As far as I know Visionary will only work with the old (old) firmware which was on 2.2/2.3.3. I will have a look and see if the hack kit has a temp root option available

Visionary only worked on older versions... firmware builds 1.32 and lower (as far as I remember). It is not on the market, but I believe it can still be downloaded from eslewhere. I had to downgrade from 1.7x to 1.32 before using visionary to root... I believe it is still possible to do that, but it is quite a pain to do.

If you do remove any bloatware, you should NOT take an OTA update, as it would mess your phone up again!

Just realised that my contracts almost up and ill be switching to another network, so I'm gonna need to sim unlock it anyway. Is AAHK the way to do it now? Haven't looked at rooting in about a year...

Thanks.

did it all in windows. i have to say that i really didnt like this process. it wasnt too stressful, but things like the pass key werent very nice. i only skimmed the manual, which i shouldnt have done, but the older way of manually making goldcards etc was longer but it seemed nicer.

all sorted either way, just need to flash a decent rom and im on sorted again :)

Good, good... glad you're all sorted again!

I get what you're talking about, when you say about the older method, but this (essentially one click) method opens rooting up to more people :)

yeah, i suppose thats true. i just think that if a dev really wants to be user friendly, his FAQ section shouldnt have 'read the effen manual' as every answer, and if a pass key is necessary for the running of the AAHK, then it should just be made clear where it is instead of being called something like pa$$ k3y in the manual so people cant even search for it. little things like that make me wonder really..

either way, its all sorted. chose blackout ICS for the time being. I remember using ice cold sandwich prior to my phone repair, which i really liked the look and feel of, but this one has much better features like sense (for widgets) and the quick settings is much more comprehensive then just the couple of toggles that were on ice cold sandwich. almost wish they could merge the best of the two lol.

:)
