Help Terrible Battery Life on Galaxy SII Epic 4G

Here's my story.

I bought my phone last Friday at approximately noon. Came with half a charge, used the phone the entire rest of the day (browsed internet, listened to music) and did not need to charge until late that night. Fast forward to today. Woke up at 9pm. Barely used the phone the entire day, like literally 1 hour total usage. By 5pm the phone was already telling me it needed to be recharged. 18% battery.

Now I know what you're thinking. The "usual suspects". Coverage in my area is decent, 3-4 bars all the time. The only thing I did on my phone today was load maybe 10 webpages and play 1 hour worth of music on Pandora. In my mind there should be no reason that the phone needed recharging. I turn off data when I'm not using it. Same with Wifi, bluetooth and everything else on the pull down menu. I use a task killer and close apps whenever I'm not using them. My brightness is low, almost to the point where I can't tell if the phone is on or off. I didn't call anybody. Didn't send or recieve any texts. It just doesn't make sense!

I think I'm going to go back to Radio Shack and see if they'll replace it or exchange it for a new one. I may be new to this whole smartphone deal, but come on. No usage and it needs recharging after 8 hours? I think I got a dud. Battery was excellent for the first day, but sucked after that.

Any advice? Any other phone I should replace it with?

Thanks,
Pickle

8 hours is decent. smartphones chew batteries. i have an s2 and i will get maybe 10 hours if my phones not used at all

Download Juice Defender? Might need root. My optimus elite gets like 14hr charge times

100% Agree with Juice Defender - it does a pretty good job maximizing my battery life.

Was this a brand-new phone, or used/refurb?

My original (Sprint GS2) batteries weren't lasting as long anymore, so I bought a few cheap (~$4 ea) new ones on Ebay, shipped from China. They worked fine - better than the old originals, but not as long as I expected. Another forum user recommended Anker batteries. I bought two and a charger for $20 (Amazon), and they last quite a bit longer than the cheapo chinese ones.

The charger is kind of a pain in the butt to use (You have to the slide pins to match the connections on your battery) But, it's universal, and will work with any cell-phone-size LiIon battery.

No juice defender or task killers here. My phone gets moderate use. Maybe an hour or so of reading, a little web surfing, a few texts, and a handful of calls daily. My battery easily lasts from the time I get up until bed time. I ususally have 40=60% charge left when I plug it in at night. Unless, that is, I decide to watch a bunch of youtube vids or something like that. Could it be that your task killer app is using more juice than it's saving? It definitely sounds like something is sucking down more juice than it should.

It's the big bold screen, optimus v would go three or four days, triumph maybe a day and a half, this phone is breakfast to dinner

Root phone then get Project X... its amazing how awesome this phone is now for reals
How did you get MMS working, I tried flashing the MMS fix and junk but it still wouldn't download MMS. Just kept saying download failed. Liked the rom, but MMS is a must for me. Plus 3g would sometimes just not work.

Here is how I did it. I downloaded APN backup restore. Converted to system app via TB. I downloaded VM apns. In APN app I disabled ics checking bia settings. Back up current apns. Deleting the current ones. Moved downloaded VM apns to the created folder that ApN back up restore app made. Then restored the VM apns. There is a guide somewhere. But that's the short of it. I would try looking the guide up. Its been awhile since the last time I did.it.
