Test Match Special / Radio 4 Longwave

I have a new car (Nissan Pathfinder) which does not receive longwave radio, meaning I cannot listen to Test Match Special in the car. I am in North Norfolk (UK) where there is no real DAB coverage. Any ideas how I can receive 198 longwave (or 5 live sports extra) through my Desire then play this through my car radio (which has an AUX input socket and a USB input). (for those of you that don't know Norfolk, 3G signal is non-existent also). Many thanks.

LW is fairly old-tech, to say the least! The Desire won't be any more able to receive it than the car.

I was just about to suggest that you use one of the internet radio apps, but I see that your 3G coverage is pants also.

In this case, the only option I can see is to get something like This and connect to the AUX-in. Not sure what in-car reception would be like though.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply. I had sadly come to the same conclusion! Was hoping that there was somebody out there who had an answer. I have never worked out why you have to pay the same telephone charge (and BBC licence fee) as everybody else when you cannot receive a decent telephone signal, 3g is something you can only read about, and broadband speeds are so painfully slow.

Didn't realize Norfolk was that far in the sticks.

Guess I should count myself lucky that I get fairly good service down here.

We used to have a static caravan up at Kelling Heath near Holt. Whenever we went I used to have to prepare myself for the dark ages signal wise and rely on wireless down the bar. On the plus side, I did spend a lot of time in the bar.

I get your gripe about license fees etc. We couldn't get DAB or Freeview either.
