Root testers needed for TWRP/CWM/SD-EXT data

So you cant use your original sd card without it getting partitioned? You have to keep the new one?

yup

if you put in another sd card that does not have the second partition

Android will not boot, because the block device that /data gets mounted to /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 does not exist

basically your just creating an ext4 partition right? you could do that with minitool partition wizard in windows without losing data.
shrink existing partion then create ext4 then make sure ext 4 is first. move if needed. you can do all this without losing data. you have to connect as mass storage.

yup

but the ext4 should be the second partition

and I am not going to write instructions on how to use Mini Partition tool

I also fear most people on here will end up destroying there data

so I am taking the safe route and telling people to get another SD Card

lol yea your probably right there

Is switching data partition like booting roms straight from ext SD? If so can we mount and run ext SD roms and half use internal for bloat? Or have a flashable directory binds

If you try this I recommend backing up all external SD to a computer then erase and follow op to the tee. Then adding app data. Let me know if this sounds logical. Cuz that's what I'd do. Thanks hk. I'm glad you visit us and help.

Tested on F with TWRP and it worked. Failed a couple of times partitioning but then I wiped the card so it was fresh and tried again no problems, rebooted, did the power twice thing and it came right up. Thanks so much! Very happy to have a proper recovery now.

I have a couple 2gigs but I'd be damned to find them when I could actually use them. Story of my life.

edit: Also I just made a backup, wiped all the data to factory reset and then restored that backup in the recovery and it worked no problem. :)

i have a feeling that data is getting backed up twice

once as sd-ext

and another time as /data

can you confirm

if so i think this can be fixed

yall also need to realise that it is not the best practice to backup a device to the same device

you can back up your data to the sdcard, but every once in a while you should take a copy of that back up and store it on your computer

I used Obackup for the backup using TWRP compressed settings, but I'm going to try recovery backup now and see if it's different. For now though, there's only the one copy on the external/TWRP folder. Just a sec....

oh yes Candoopa, I'm just feeling this program out for now, I have previous backups on the computer for just this reason as shit does go wrong sometimes.

yeah, another thing we want to test is performance

depending on the class of your sd card, your mileage may vary

i would say use at least a class 6 card, but if you can use class 10 that would be better

also keep in mind

if you flash a rom that flashes a new kernel

you will me overwriting the kernel that came with my zip file, and android will start using the internal data partition again

right, but couldnt that kernel be implemented into roms so that it should be streamlined? I'm still getting the terminology down in the not all fingers are thumbs but all thumbs are fingers sense lol

yes, anyone who wants to use that kernel in there roms, have my permission to do so

for now, you can just make sure you re-flash my zip file after you flash a rom

ooooo, that's nifty, i was thinking kernels that are programmed into roms cant solely be switched, learned yet something else today. Thanks for the headsup

the installer script in a rom can install, kernels, recoveries, bootloaders, basically any partition

it just depends on the script, pretty easy stuff, once you start looking into it, and get familiar with the way the script works

Can you make all that conversation into way i can put this on my phone???

this is still in a testing phase, I do not want it to be too easy for people

later on when it is tested, and bugs are worked out, some one can put out some easy step by step guides with pictures and stuff
