Root tether problem

when i start tether it works fine. when i try to cut it off it will not shut off it comes right back on and reconizes the computer even if it is shut off. any body have this issue before

Can you give us a little more info such as what app you are using to tether, what ROM you are running and what kernel.

all i did is root my phone no rom or anything. my phone works fine my wifes phone has an issue. it is just an app from the market. it is green when you teather

It may be a bad download have you tried uninstalling then install it again?

I have read a lot about tethering and have never heard this problem before. I would also recommend deleting the app and downloading it again. Or, you could also try going into Menu\Settings\Applications\Manage Applications\Wireless Tether and then clearing data and cache (if there is any). You can also tell it to force stop in that same location.

Give that a try and let us know what happens.

I just want to make sure you are doing this correctly... Are you sure you are turning off the tethering from the phone? If using the Wireless Thether app, that would mean you are pressing the white/grey button in the center of the screen with the dot and three semi circles above it. It says "Press to stop tethering". It should then turn green.

This will turn off the wi-fi signal. Your computer should no longer see this (your EVO) as an available wi-fi network
