tethering phone to tablet

yesterday i received the HTC thunderbolt as an early Christmas present and i am trying to figure out how i would be able to tether the phone to my Toshiba thrive. one problem is that the cell carriers (mine is Verizon) are locking down on tethering without paying a fee for it. as i understand, i would need to root the phone to be able to tether for free, right? what apps do you recommend for the tethering and for which device?

If you root your bolt use the revolutionary root method. its easy and fast.

I just went through this two weeks ago using this:

very easy. I was on 2.2 though, I don't know if that matters. I even returned it back to factory for warranty return(unrelated) very quickly. I'm using barnicle app

You can also purchase Easy Tether from the market if you aren't quite ready to root your brand new phone. I've got that and it works fine. I got it for 4.99 off Amazon a few months back I think, so check there and the regular android market.

Unfortunately bypassing the tethering fee on the Verizon network is a violation of their terms of service. As such it's not something that can be discussed here at Android Forums! Sorry!
