Root Tethering ruin the battery?

is it possible for tethering to ruin the battery. Router broke so I've been using tethering to do my school work for the past week. But I've noticed my battery isn't lasting as long as before. It was charged at 100% when I removed it at 6:00 today, just 6 hours and im on 37 percent and I haven't used it much at all.

idle: 33%
Display: 15
voice calls: 6%

I had this problem. Your usb can't handle the power strain for tethering and charging. Your best bet it to go out and pick up a powered usb hub, and give it like 2 volts over what it takes. It makes everything even out.
