Tethering with unlimited AT&T plan

I'm switching to the N3 from my iPhone 5 next week. I am on AT&T with an old grandfathered unlimited plan. I was unable to tether my iPhone, is there anyway for me to tether my unlimited plan using the Note 3?

I am not planning to root the phone.

Thanks!

I'm switching from my 4S to the Note 3 and I could absolutely tether w/o a plan, however this is against AT&T ToS and if they catch you they will take you off the unlimited plan (I know, I'm still on it) and put you on a non-unlimited plan with a tethering plan added.

I have no doubt you can do it on the Note as well but the same rules apply.

Install VPN app. They will never know what is happening.

Does the VPN app really block AT&T from seeing you hiking up your data?

I would think a surge in data usage would be the thing that alerts AT&T.

Using this app I would not see the data usage register when I look at my AT&T usage app?

The app is called VPN and available from the Play Store?

Doesn't AT&T still throttle unlimited plans when they get to a certain bandwidth usage?

They absolutely do.

That is why I am wondering if they can see the data usage using that app.

From my experience, VPN's have never been able to help one get around throttling. They've helped people get around tethering checks, but that's it. So I think it would be a moot point if they're capped anyways.

Yes after 5GB of "fair use" they bring you down to EDGE speeds (basically unusable). VPN doesn't change how much data you are using but might hide where you're sending data to/from so AT&T doesn't force you into a tethering contract (extra fee on top of data). No promises, though.

I rarely ever use more than 2-3 gb in a month but occasionally I need to tether my AT&T connection to my work computer in an area that my Verizon MiFi does not have service. I'm not really concerned about throttling. I also doubt AT&T will be looking into my details if my data usage is reasonable (under 2-3gb a month).

That said, which app would you guys recommend?

I have been caught every time I have tried to tether on my grandfathered plan. I get a nasty text.

As for throttle...on my htc one all I had to do was toggle data on and off a fee times or switch to 3g then back to lte and was unthrottled.
