Tethering with usb - what program on win xp or 7?

I would like to be able to cable tether my phone to a computer either using win xp or 7. What program do I need to install on my computer to allow me to do this? I have a Motorola and a Coolpad.

You don't need anything. SImply plug in your phone and enable tethering via USB.

I want to be able to move data around - have not thought yet about surfing the web.

Depending on the version of Android, you should just be able to plug it in and it will connect as a storage device. If you want to copy outside of the user storage area, you will need to root or use adb.
