Root Tethering

So, I've read some threads regarding tethering with other devices but not PC's. I was reading online a way to get past Verizon block on wireless tethering but every link for it does not take you to a web page. Is there any wireless tethering apps for Droid X gingerbread cracked that work yet? Also is it possible to instead tether it thought the cable instead?

Nothing I download seems to work.

My point, exactly, there have been many "discussions" on this subject and they all ended badly.

To answer the question all moral debates aside PDANET is the only thing that currently works on GB. I know because I am using it right now, Android Tether and barnacle are currently blocked although they work perfectly on froyo.

Long story short...wireless tethering apps were available for use in Froyo and worked pretty well back then. With the release of Gingerbread those holes have basically been plugged. There may be some work around, but if you read through the forums, supposedly VZW now has something in the newest code, Gingerbread, that allows them to find those who tether without paying for the VZW tethering plan (don't know for sure, I haven't heard 100% verification of this, but that is/was the talk). So, to be on the safe side, if you need to tether, pay for the VZW tethering plan and that seems to work well for those that use it.

The TBH tethering patch (here, apply through clockworkmod) will make android tether work on gingerbread, though it might take some fiddling with settings.

There are rumors about verizon tracking folks who tether illegally, but these rumors are wholly unsubstantiated. The 1 (one) case of someone getting charged (that was reported thirdhand) was supposedly someone who was tethering like 30gb a month or something.

That said, it is against the TOS so anyone who uses it is doing so at their own risk.

When you use PDANET and tether through USB does Verizon charge for that to, or is it free without any TaC breach?

Its a ToS breach if you tether in any way shape or form without paying Verizon.

That said, no one (except for that one thirdhand case I mentioned above) has gotten charged for it yet.
