Help Tethering

Been on my laptop for about an hour trying to get tethering to work. Ive tried easyther, pdanet, cant get either to work! I have the debugging selected.. Im thinking there is probably something simple that I am overlooking.
Any Ideas?? Please!

I have only tried pdanet, but I know you need to have the app running on your phone before you start it on your computer.
