Help Text exiting sucks on Android

Text editing is a PITA on Android imo. Either that or I'm missing something. And the new 3.0 style is just a bad as the previous one.

I can't seem to select the text I want to copy or delete or even get the stupid cursor placed precisely. Its seems very very laggy and difficult to use.

This, I think, is my biggest complaint. In the browser and a lot of other apps it won't let me select text at all, which is a major pain.

i havent had any real issues with text selection. I have copied many things out of the browser and then use the handy menu at the top to edit/paste/position the text

How do you select the text? If I try to select it, like I hold down in a spot on the screen, all it does is give me an option to paste. am I missing something?

Nope. I have a Droid2, so I did try that. With the Xoom generally you long tap the text, then it has the movable ends that let you choose a selection area. It works in some places, but not in the browser, as far as I can tell/ Very frustrating.

manual says its still long touch to bring the little "endblocks" up to select the text

dont have my xoom on me so i cant say for sure

Right- and that does work. Sometimes. :) Like, usually, I can select normal text on a page in the browser. but if it's a text box or field I'm typing- like say a message board where I'm quoting someone and removing part of the quote, something I do often- it doesn't work.

Ok- so I just tried on a forum where it consistently hasn't worked- and it worked. :p So either it's intermittent or... I dunno. But I swear it didn't work before!!

I'm not a huge fan of the text entering/editing setup either, however here is what I've found for the text highlighting functionality. Most of the time if you press and hold on a word it will highlight that word with the little drag arrows beneath and the cut/copy/paste options on a bar at the top. doubletapping a word also worked. This seems to work most places (including the browser, I just checked ;) ). The other way I found (when using doc's 2 go) was menu/edit/selection then it would highlightt from wherever the cursor was. This also worked from long press/selection mode.

I think the auto-type/auto-correct confuses it. It sure slows down any text input I do on here.

I was an iphone user for years, and I am really disappointed with how bad the text editing works on my galaxy. There is nothing fluid/intuitive/easy about it... it is sloppy, unreliable, and incredibly frustrating!

It's almost inexcusable, considering everything I've read on the forums... how is it still this bad when they've had multiple versions of the software to get it right?
