Help text input methods?

Today is a week into my first android os phone abd there are a few things I notice/miss from my N900.
I find the copy/paste a bit hit and miss. Often I can't seem to activate it with the lkng press?
Also just now I long pressed a link,choose the copy link option, flicked back to where I wanted to paste it and pasted, and got my previous ckpy selection. ?

I miss the cursor keys for going back up my typing to correct typos. I find the flag cursor thing very clunky and hit and miss, mostly miss.

Also,I just replied with quote on a post where I wanted to delete many lknes of the quote. On N900,hold shift,cursor down to select it all, delete, done. Couldn't manage it on nexus.

Alzo is it normal to not have spell options while typing this?

Is it also normal to have smileys instead of nwline in messages keyboard.

I've tried loking for new keyboards to addres my wants but I dont seem to see one that does.
 
I'd recommend that you try Swype.

Swyping is different than typing (much better, easier, faster, imo), but even if you use the Swype keyboard for typing, one advantage over the stock keyboard is that it has a D-pad feature. I agree that the long press select text method in android can be frustrating. Swype's D-pad ensure's that i don't have to use it while typing.

Swype's keyboard also adds the shortcuts for copy, cut, and select all that you're probably used to from your computer environment.

Swype is only officially available through their website as a beta launch...you could do that and have to deal with it expiring every few months or just get the apk from a Google search (not allowed to post a link here).

can you elaborate on the above, the acronyms are all new to me.

Is there anywhere I can see screen grabs of the keyboard layouts?
I've had a look over the swype site, but all their images are bigging up the swype function and nothing else.

please let us know if you find a keyboard that pleases you. I am also on the same boat, missing the directional arrows, I would love to have them as I hate having to go back and forth with the flag cursor indicator just to correct one letter in the middle of a sentence that I may have missed and spell check "cowrecked" it.

Any chance of a screen grab? Checked the pics and video, but none ever show that.
Also, do you get the spelling words offered when typing in the reply box on threads here? My default keyboard on default browser does not.

They can be toggled, I have them off due to screen space but they show up along the bottom. One of the screenshots on this article shows them:

Press and hold to select the picture from your gallery, then on top you have a little icon, press that and all sharing options will show up. You can upload to Picasa and give us the link, or you can send via e-mail to yourself and then attach it here, or share on another site,etc..
 
....STILL can't figure out how to upload pics via photobucket or dropbox.
wtf. I know I've done it before.

please somebody tell me if this shows that I have no clue how to post via photobucket or dropbox. I've honestly been trying ALL night. I need help.

Wow, you are running all those apps and do not have sluggish performance?
I am running touchdown, pandora or tunein and maybe a few background processes, I am already running %80 capacity of RAM and it starts acting up..

I'm not sure which of us you are talking to, but some things that many don't even realize is that ICS has technology that not only doesn't NEED apps like task killers, or battery savers, or ANY antivirus apps, but actually these type of apps actually conflict with the same intended actions that the ICS is designed to do. They actually SLOW the operations down, and drain the battery. There's so much more that people don't understand about the awesomeness of ICS
 
Lol and no, my phone works great now that I go rid of those apps. And I only get 3G until next year. Look at verizon's site, go to support. They supposedly have great insights for your specified phone.

I wish I could know for sure whether what you said is true, or what i was told yesterday by techs at verizon. They said that apps like task killers actually keep the apps running until you kill them with that app, which conflicts with ICS' design of killing tasks. My phone was so super sluggish when I had Advanced Task Killer, until I killed the tasks. He said get rid of it for that reason. Now my phone NEVER lags. It's got speed I haven't seen before, because I was told to get ATK asap, and I did, and had to constantly kill apps. Now I feel free!

pretty sure that those are just notifications. but you be right. and I may be pissed and confused now. I'm gonna point that out to them. because, how do you get notifications from an app that is stopped?! wtf
