Help Text message glitch

Hi guys. When deleting text, my phone freezes for a few seconds and then brings up the screen to highlight and delete previous messages. Then, after pressing the 'back' key, it takes me to the first message I sent to that particular person. It's not usually a problem until it comes to texting my girlfriend/good friends, when I have to scroll past around 1000 messages to continue typing my message or send it. It only has issues when typing SMS messages, not WhatsApp messages, e-mails or text in the browser. I've tried using the Swiftkey keyboard, but the problem persists. It also only seemed to happen after I upgraded to Gingerbread a few weeks after I got the phone. Any suggestions?

Does it happen with any of the 3rd Party apps like Go SMS, Handcent or Chomp?

Same thing happens on my HTC Inspire. It only seems to happen when the phone is held sideways. And it only happens when I'm writing an SMS.
