Help Text message icon now goes to last application used

My wife and I just got new LG Vortex phones. Our first Android phones.

An hour after getting it, she has somehow made it so that the text messaging icon (green button with smilie) goes, not to her text messages, but to the last application she used. I've done some looking about here and in the phone and such. I'm in IT and am pretty good with user interfaces but can't figure out how she screwed this up. Any ideas?

The bar/dock at the bottom, with the stock icons/apps, can be configured to apps of choice by dragging an app icon to the bar.

I'm thinking that is what was done in some manner and with some icon or other, and likely multiple times in efforts to remedy the problem.

I'd put the messaging icon on the home screen, via long pressing from the app drawer, then drag it to the old messaging spot in the dock.

Thanks for the suggestion. The issue has been resolved... sort of. I still have no idea what caused it but the problem went away just mysteriously as it appeared.

I tried to do this the other night on my wifes phone, and it wouldnt let me drag anything to the bar. The moment I selected an icon on the home screen, it just brought up the delete bar. I see you have a Fascinate, I'm wondering if this is a feature specific to that phone.
