Help Text Message Issue

vinbeaver

Newbie
Twice now I've received text messages from friends that show up from random phone numbers and the message in the text is always preceded by their name in my contacts. When I reply, they still receive the text at their correct phone number, not the random number. Anyone familiar with this?

I do have Google Voice forwarding to my MetroPCS number, but that number isn't my Google Voice number and why would that number show up? I have no clue what the phone number is. I never had this issue on Verizon.

This is not an issue with Metro.
Don't see why you would think so.

Try going to Settings > Apps > All > Messaging and Force Stop then Clear Data and reboot. See if that fixes it. If it doesn't fix it, do the same thing for Contacts. You will lose your contacts and text messages by doing this. If all else fails, you may need to backup your data and factory reset your phone.

Edit: I just reread the OP. Are people texting your GVoice number? If so this number may be one of Google's forwarding numbers.

Another edit: Called that number. Sounds Googleish....

Why wouldn't this be a MetroPCS issue? I've never had this issue with any Android phone I've ever owned on at least three of the major carriers. Or its the phone. I've never owned an LG before that I can remember.

Yes, I read the edits. But even on other carriers, it would still come up as from the actual contact that sent the text. Maybe Google recently changed how Google Voice works. And the texts were from my Google Voice.

I downloaded the GVoice app, and looked at the settings.

Please go to Settings > Sync and notifications > Receive text messages > Via the messaging app. Have someone text you though your GVoice number and see if that works...

Well, I had that option checked, and I got what you had:

This is a Google Voice thing. Not Metro.

Try the other option, your messages will go to the Google Voice app, and will be available over WiFi networks as well as 3G/4G...
