Help Text Messages from the Future

Lurker
About a day ago my phone spontaneously decided that it was mid-April 2014, and so I set the date and time manually. I checked later in the day and found that the network-provided time was now accurate, and it has been since. The problem is that incoming text messages from certain contacts are stamped with a date in mid-April, and so threads in Hangouts and the stock SMS app are horribly out of sequence.

When I send a message, for example, it immediately moves it above any messages "sent" on April 16, 2014 by the other party. I've tried setting my own date and time manually, but my phone (a standard Galaxy Note 3 on Verizon) still seems to think that most incoming text messages are being sent from some point about two months into the future. The only way I can get the messages to show in the correct order is to change my own phone's date to April 16, 2014, which obviously isn't optimal.

SMS Backup+ (or any backup that creates an xml file). Back everything up, edit the file so it shows the right dates, delete all your messages and restore. (You should be able to figure out the xml format in a few minutes if you pay attention. Just open the file in a text editor. Even Notepad will do.)
