Help Text Messages

A friend with an older LG phone (no data plan required), says some of my texts come as MMS instead of SMS. I send them SMS, so am not sure why she's getting MMS. I looked at the settings, but didn't see anything. Another forum surmised it might be the smileys. I just send punctuation ones :) or :( etc. Any ideas?

Are the texts that come in as MMS longer than 160 characters? If you're going Verizon to Verizon, it'll convert 160 char+ SMS messages to MMS so that the person on the dumbphone can read the whole message.

As far as I know, they're fairly short messages. She's on US Cellular, if that matters. We're still puzzled because even short messages with no smiles or special characters of any kind will go to her MMS out of the blue, even if I send them SMS.

Next time it happens, check the exact character length of the message. Even if it's at 161 it may send as an MMS.

Are you using the stock SMS or an alternate app? If you're using stock, I might recommend switching to an alternate app to eliminate that as a cause (I highly recommend GoSMSPro!), or if you're already using an alternate app, try switching back to stock and see if the problem is resolved.

Does your friend have this issue with anyone else or is it just you? Does anyone else you send messages to sometimes receive your texts as MMS?

I will watch next time and see how long the messages are.

I'm use "VZMessages", which I got, IIRC, in the Google Play store. I have a stock app, though, so will try that as well.

AFAIK, it's just me she has the problem with, but if it continues, I can check with her. I did sometimes get MMS from my sister (who is also on US Cellular) when it was just text.
