Text messaging display options?

When I want to send text messaging and tap the messaging icon, the first screen I see is like this.

Screen 1




And then, I select the recipient from my contacts in this case Megan, the screen changes to this.

Screen 2




It seems strange because I already selected the recipient. Once I tap the messaging area, the screen changes to this.

Screen 3




Is there a way to skip screen 2? If I go to contacts first and select messaging, it directly goes to screen 3.

The idea is that you may want to add more than one contact to send the message to, that's why there is a screen 2 when you do this from the messaging menu. When you select from the contact menu, the phone assumes that you don't want to add anyone else, which is why it immediately goes to screen 3.

So in that respect, there is probably no way to skip screen 2 except to always start messages from the contacts app. Sorry!

Could always use a third party messaging app. I use GoSMS and used to use Handcent, I like both more than the stock app.

Good idea. There are a lot of options in the play store. I used goSMS for a while and liked it fine, but when I updated my phone to sense 5 i got a much better stock app, so I've stuck with it so far.

I installed GoSMS. I like the simple default UI and the swipe gesture function.

I have a question about the RAM usage though. After I closed the app, it's still using around 42MB. Does it sound about right?

Yep, sounds right.
I just set Greenify to keep it hibernated unless it's actually being used. It doesn't affect incoming texts. Greenify is pretty good at keeping non essential RAM use down.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give Greenify a shot too then as my POP email is using around 50MB and Swype is using around 36MB (one time it was using 90MB).

I installed Greenify + donation package. It seems to be working well. Besides GoSMS, nothing really needs to be hibernated. Around 213MB free RAM at the moment.

One thing to remember about modern android is that you don't need to worry about RAM usage. Android dynamically frees up memory as it needs to, and having something in RAM doesn't affect battery life. Sometimes, if you are aggressively closing apps, it will slow your phone down since android will open it back up itself. It's set up to keep the apps you frequently use in RAM, to make the phone faster. And having your RAM filled isn't a bad thing.

Thanks. Yes, I've learned that as soon as I joined the forum. That's the reason why I've never installed apps like a task killer.

Greenify is not a task killer, right? It hibernates apps instead of freezing them?

Thanks for the replies guys. Well, I uninstalled Greenify for now.

I shouldn't be overly concerned about my RAM anyway as I've never felt my phone is sluggish or anything like that.
