Help Text messaging keypad change

I'm using the stock Moto Droid X text messaging app. The key that was previously the carriage return is now a "" key The "" key used to only appear on the NUM keypad. Now it's on the ALPHA keypad as well, and there is no carriage return. Android V 2.2.1, with system updated today. Ideas?

Hmm... this was always an option... you could have the enter key or the smilie button. Just upgraded today, and can no longer find that option... perhaps they removed it???

I use Handcent SMS (which I absolutely love) and it does have an option within that program so you can choose what you want to use.

SwiftKey X, TouchPal and Ultra keyboards are a few of the keyboards I have that retain the return button in the stock messaging app. SwiftKey X has return as a longpress option on the smiley key.

I've never really used the stock messaging app and I agree this is a little unusual. I use Handcent and so I've never encountered this issue. I suggest you try out some other keyboards and see which one works best for you.

To change your keyboard long press in a text field, select input method from the pop-up menu and select which keyboard you want.
