Help Text messaging notification icon disappears

Ever since updating to Jelly Bean I've noticed my text messaging notifications sometimes stop working. For example I will have a text message (or sometimes multiple text messages in my existing inbox threads but there was no icon notification to tell me that the messages were there. If I don't check my inbox text threads I'll never know they were in there. This has caused problems already as my friends wonder why I'm not replying to important messages. Anyone else have this issue?
 
Check and see if you have notification on. Might have to do a factory reset and then update again. See if that fixes it.
 
ok its a problem with a programs u installed. in my case it was POPs. so just try to do factory reset and it will do the job.
 
I don't mind trying a factory reset but I'm sure this isn't being caused by anything I installed. All I have other than factory is the ebay, yahoo sports, facebook, netflix, wells fargo, paypal and youtube apps. Had the same apps before upgrading to jelly bean and never had this problem.
 
Same thing everything was fine then after Jelly Bean no more notification icon. I don't want to do a factory reset and start all over again. So any other ideas?
 
Well until more people complain about this I doubt that anything will be done to fix it. There has to be more users who have noticed this. Anybody else??
 
Unless they send a support patch i don't know what to tell you guys aside from trying a factory reset.

I mean you are using the stock text messaging app right? If you don't wanna factory reset then just try a third party app like go SMS.
