Help Text Notification Stuck

jbsf27

Lurker
I apologize if this has been asked/resolved before, but I searched the forums and google quite a bit to no avail. I have found other instances of people with this issue but have not found a resolution yet.

Every time I receive a single text message, I get a notification on the unlock screen that says I have 2 texts. When I unlock the phone and pull down the notification area, it lists the 2 texts. One of the texts is the actual text i just received and I can access it just fine. The other text listed is a text from weeks ago that has long been deleted, including the entire thread it was in. If I select that text, it brings up a blank compose message and still does not make the notification disappear.

I can clear all notifications and it goes away, but as soon as I receive another text from anyone, it pops up there again. I have tried some other solutions that popped up on google. These were to download the SMS Cleaner app and search by keyword. Upon doing this, the app does not find any texts with the keywords from the ghost text.

I have also tried replying to the text to create a new thread and maybe try to delete it again, but even when the new thread is created/deleted the ghost text comes back.

I also turned off/on text notifications several times also combined with power cycling the phone, which did not solve this either.

Note: This text was from a room alert system in our server room at work. It sends email alerts that we then have converted to text message and sent to our phones.

Not sure if it being an email has anything to do with it, but I have received these alerts several times before without any of them getting stuck.

My phone is still on 2.1 and was rooted using Unleash the Beast.

Anyone have the same problem, or any ideas? Is there a folder that holds texts somewhere in the root file system that I can clean out?

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give as much detail about the problem as possible, this has been annoying me for weeks.

UTB is very old and dated and only ever saw one update. A month after UTB's final update, the Captivate got a firmware update. UTB also makes a lot more changes to your phone than just rooting. There are safer and more-modern ways to root your Captivate these days and have been for a while.

I wouldn't be surprised if something UTB did is no longer compatible with a current Captivate, market, etc. If you read the UTB thread at XDA there are countless problems from poor users still trying to use this outdated tool. Not sure if there's a way to undo the damage either without using Odin 1-click, which has its own issues and side-effects.
