text to speech?

Just to clarify you want it to speak out to you your messages for you to hear them or you want to talk to it and have it type your texts with your voice?
If you want to talk to it and have it type start the message in the landscape virtual keyboard and near the space bar hit the microphone key

Did you ever get TTS figured out? I am having issues with it as well. I also thought it was a native application.

If you download drivesafe.ly it will do this for you. You can set it to read the message as it comes in too so if you are driving you never have to look at your phone.

I use the motorola h17txt and it reads them through my headset right into my ear. Then with handscent I can also speak the text to respond. Makes it so that I can legally text and drive without ever taking my eyes off the road.

you can configure Tasker to do this as well no matter what msg app you use.. among 1000 other cool things it can do. it is a little tricky, but possible.

But I thought there was a native TTS program built into the Android OS. Or is that just the language library?

I think you mean "TTS Service Extended" - which you have to download but is suppose to integrate into the system. I tried it months ago to try to have it read web pages to me.. but to no avail

hello.

I cant get google translator to work the way i think it should, yea, i know, a big assumption there

It starts to download the tts extender thing and comes back with an error of not being able to find some wierd file name thing...

and stops at the error message
