Help Texting issue since GB update

Since updating to GB the other day (I know, better late than never) I'm having an annoying problem with texting. When my wife and I are texting each other it doesn't show up as a two sided conversation. I'll have two separate groups. One is everything that my wife has sent, then I have to go back to the main text screen to view what I have sent. It only happens with her. All of the other people I text show up as a normal conversation.

I've checked all my settings and everything seems right, I've rebooted the phone. I've even deleted ALL my text messages to see if that would solve it. Nothing works. Any ideas?

I've seen this before, on BlackBerry. It turned out to be something the carrier was doing at the SMS level.

The users had to get AT&T to reset something on the account related to the SMS system. This was a couple of years ago, and I don't remember the details. Sorry.

Well, I called AT&T and decided pretty quickly that I was talking to an idiot. At first she tells me that is the way it's supposed to look when texting iPhones (even though ALL the other iPhones I test work normally). Then she proceeds to tell me that if I had told her that it happens with ALL my contacts, then that is the way the GB update is supposed to work. The only way to fix it is to back up my phone and return it to default and restore it and that she will walk me through the process. I then hung up on her, since I hate doing that.

Here's how I fixed it. I went back in and compared all the numbers for my wife and made sure they matched up, thinking that maybe one didn't have the area code and the other one did. No good, they both were exactly the same. Then I figured "what the hell, lets add the country code.) I put a +1 in front of the number and magically all the texts merged into one thread. Don't know why it worked, but it did.
