Textra Alternative

Hi all,

I've been using Textra for a couple of months now and love it as an SMS/MMS replacement app, but the past few days I've been having issues with it being slow and crashing.

I am also using Swiftkey and I am aware that the 2 have a conflict that can cause problems.

On this basis can anyone recommend another SMS replacement app, that isnt laiden with bloatware and adverts?

I've been using Hangouts, but just as a SMS/MMS app. I don't sign in to my Google account (well, you have to initiate it but can then sign out and just use 'SMS'). It's quick, looks good and just works. There's also Google Messenger, that's nice as well.

I'm currently using Textra's big brother Chomp with no problems (and also use SwiftKey). But I confess I've never had a problem with Textra (though I have received the warning about SwiftKey, which claims it's a SwiftKey problem).

I use Google Messenger with SwiftKey but I'm not too bothered with features or eyecandy in my texting app

I use Textra with SwiftKey. No issues. I have received the "warning" from Textra regarding SwiftKey.

I use Textra (pro version of course) and SwiftKey with no problems at all.

I never tried chompSMS until I read your message. I tried it. Wow. It says there is an in app purchase. I can't find any reference in the app. Perhaps my contribution to Textra Pro covered it? (I always pay for an app I use when it is asked for. That's how we keep the apps coming.)

chompSMS == VERY nice

Thanks for the input guys, I'll give Chomp a try.

Weirdly, since I switched back from Lightning Launcher to Nova yesterday I've not had any issues with Textra. I wonder if Textra was conflicting with Lightning Launcher as my phone had also started running very sluggish? My phone is now buttery smooth and rapid again now I'm back on Nova.

I just gave up on Textra because it started showing ads and I'm too cheap to pay for something as basic as a texting app. I did quite like it, but I'll stick with the stock app til I find something else free.
