Now go make love to your Prime or whatever it is you Fanboyz do to or on your Prime !

Now, this is no way to make friends. You can't take your own frustration out on people who are just "happy" with what they have. So you are cross about the spec sheet being changed...GPS is important to you...write a load of letters to Asus and get your money back, go buy a tablet that satisfys you. Venting on here won't change your tablet. If people are happy then be happy for them no? If you are unhappy, do something productive about it. Stop being such a dick, write some intelligent correspondence to Asus, get them to take back tablet giving you refund, go a get a different tablet.

Just to clarify. From what I have read above, Asus DID fix GPS in a 2nd production run. So is every new order now getting a Prime with functioning GPS? What about the Wifi issue?

I ended up getting my first production run model (SN stating with bk...) replaced with a new second production run device (SN starting C10) I can confirm that my gps is fully functional. when using gps test without wifi on, I register 12 satellites in approximately 30 seconds. With wifi on it takes about 5-10 seconds. My wifi results are in line with my many other devices in my house. At about 30 feet on my first prime I got 8 megs down and 1 meg up. On my new prime I get 20 meg down, 4 meg up, which is consistent with all other devices I own.

So, I consider my tablet 100% functional. Everyhting works, and works perfectly.

If that's the case , why doesn't Asus replace all earlier Primes with the new ones, that work the way their suppose to , without all the RMA crap ?

Most legitimate company's would do this concerning a product that is barely a month old.

And it's not so much me venting about Asus here on these forums , as it is about believing the number of people here and other forums, who are afraid to admit they have a broken device and want to believe they have the best tablet in the universe, and how much they try to help Asus sweep the gps issue under the rug !

there you go again...

people here and other forums, who are afraid to admit they have a broken device and want to believe they have the best tablet in the universe

Why do you seem to be blinded by your own frustration that you cant accept people may have different feelings from you. Im not sure it is other people being afraid of anything, couldnt it just be that other people are just able to be content, as GPS was never an issue for them. I totally understand why you are frustrated and agree with you that if you bought the device wanting the GPS functioing in the way the spec sheet advertised then go get it sorted. Maybe yes it was bad form for asus to just remove it from the spec sheet but that doesnt mean everyone has to share your opinions, if somebody else ways up the hassle of complaining to asus, venting on forums etc agianst the fact that they wouldnt have ever used this function in the first place, they surely they are allowed to be just "happy" with their tablet.

Let me use your words to explain what I mean...

Now follow closely and I'll try to explain it as if I were talking to a 3 year old !

1.insulting/patonising people is not very nice and will not fix your gps.

2.just because someone doesnt share your opinion, doesnt mean they are wrong

3.dont believe everythign that you think

4.be kind whenever possible....it is always possible!

So , you are content with misleading advertising and a company that instead of rectifying the issue, try's to make it disappear ?

Let Asus get away with it and they'll expect to get away with more, next time !

Can't put it any kinder or gentler than that...............and have a nice day !

While some of rdalev's analogies are a bit off, and he did contribute to his situation by not returning when he first noticed defect. He is correct about many people on here remaining purposely oblivious in an attempt to avoid feeling "ripped off"; and the fact that ASUS is trying to squirm out of this mess without accepting any blame for knowingly shipping a defective (or at the very least a sub-standard) product.

I have purchased many first batch "new tech" products at release, and there is a difference between a "working out a few early bugs" product and a defective (should be recalled) product. I am on my second prime(one with old serial number and one with new serial number) and this is most definitely a defective product. The wifi and GPS are not quality and weak, not to mention the less frequent but still prevalent problems of light leakage, reboot, etc.. . Those who claim to have a perfectly working product either have low standards of quality, are kidding themselves, or there are tiny fraction of products that accidentally function properly that some here must have gotten.

There would not be so many complaints about the TP on every android site if there were not significant problems with this device.

Finally ! Someone else see's the light and admits the Prime is not the best tablet in the universe !

Shame on me for not returning my Prime within the 14 day window I had and expecting Asus to fix the GPS, instead of Asus making GPS capabilities a non-issue after my 14 day return window passed !

Is the second Prime, with different SN any better or is it still a crap-shoot ?

I have to pipe up and say that anyone who sees the GPS issue as a deal breaker is surely missing the point of the Prime, or has purchased the wrong device. If you want GPS when you're out and about, use your TomTom, or your android phone. No doubt you have one or even both of these.

Fu-k the fact that they removed it from the spec sheet. I personally couldn't give a shite. It's an irrelevant function. Who the hell uses a 10" wide monitor as sat nav?

Are you actually bothered by the lack of GPS, or just trying to build an arguement?

Bottom line, would you have bought the Prime if it didn't have GPS listed? If you still would have done, then please (you and the rest of you) shut the hell up about GPS.
If you wouldn't have done, then tough. You've got it now. Just use your phone or TomTom for sat sav and sell your Prime on ebay.

So tired of all the GPS sulking still going on, and on, and on....

I'm not trying to imply the lack of GPS as a deal breaker for anyone !

I'm implying that Asus lied about GPS, then tried to cover it up and the fact that people are ok with that !

Let them get away with it and they'll try to get away with more on your next Asus tablet .................gettin' my point yet ?

You "Don't" advertise a feature on a product, find out after customers have received your product, that the advertised feature doesn't work, then tell your customers too bad !

"IF" I had bought the Prime after GPS was taken off the spec sheet, you and I wouldn't be having this conversation right now !

The second prime is significantly better in the light leakage department. The wifi and gps are still defectively weak.

---------------------------

In response to Mubbles, I have multiple GPS devices and had no intention of using it as a navigation device and the lack of GPS alone would not be a deal breaker for me ... but, the GPS is not even close to the only defect in a large percentage of these devices.

However, whether it is a good option for a navigation system or not is not the point ... The point is the fact that it was advertised to have a specific capability, and than when said capability is defective the company simply removes it from there spec sheet and than makes customers jump through hoops to have it supposedly "repaired" or replaced and offer no option to those who want to return the device... this speaks directly to the integrity of the company; and should make you question how you might be treated when you buy one of their products in the future that has a defect that does effect you!

---BTW I have a friend who has who drives a car that cost him well over 6 figures and of course it has built in GPS; but he still has his IPAD mounted in his car and and uses the the navigation in conjunction with other programs on it for business purposes .... so there are at least a few people who probably do want GPS functionality in their "10' wide monitor"!!

Like I said before, if you bought your Prime when GPS was listed on the spec sheet and whether GPS actually working it's a deal breaker or not, you were lied to, taken advantage of and paid for a "full functioning GPS capable" device, which you did not get !

It seems to be very difficult for some people to admit they have flawed device to themselves, but the sooner you accept you don't have what was advertised, the easier this conversation gets !

If you bought your Prime after Asus removed GPS from the spec sheet and swept the defect under the rug, you got what you paid for, a device with no GPS capability !

If I bought a 70" LED TV that advertised GPS capable, I better be able to throw it in the back of my truck and get from point A to B , with "NO" issues !

Whether GPS on my 70" LED TV was a deal breaker or not, it damn well better work, since they advertised that feature !

rdalev:
How are you making out with Asus getting this resolved and what have you done so far to that end?

Have emailed Asus 3 times, with the last response from them taking more than a week and not the customary 48 business hours.

The 4th email I received from them, ask me to rma my device, I replied that in no way was I going to rma it because of all the rma nightmares I've recently read concerning this device and asked them to ship one of the later Primes , with different S/N , to me. Once I tested to see if wifi/GPS improved, I would immediately ship my defective device back to them.
Still waiting on a reply.......................

I also gave them other options to rectify this issue, rebate check, discount on accessories or total refund from them, which I consider none of the above, to be too much to ask for concerning a device that does not work as advertised !

Yeah, even a lowly tech on the ladder of life knows about the defective aluminum back. What does that tell you.
I'll give you his email address so you two can compare where you are on the ladder of life!
