TF300TL Car Charger

The stock charger runs 15V 1.2A and 5V 2A. As far as I can tell, it charges at 15V when plugged into the base, charging the base, which charges the tablet in turn. Plug in just the tablet and it switches to 5V.

Just bought a PNY 2.1A charger and was disappointed to find it wasn't charging the base. Well, duh, it's only 5V. It charges the tablet, bypassing the base, but somehow seems to drain the base as well?? Odd. Not sure if worth keeping just to charge the tablet.

Has anyone come across a car charger that mimics the stock dual voltage charger? That is, I'm looking for a charger that take the 12-18V from the car and puts out 15V or 5V, depending on what's plugged into it. May not even exist.

As I said before both the tablet and base uses 15v, according to the ASUS manual. I assume you have the tablet plugged into the base and the base to the charger? In that case the base is being drained because it is charging the tablet and the little 5v charger you have isn't man enough to keep up with either of them.

Good point Harry. As I understand it the Asus charger needs USB3 in order to decide whether to send 15v or 5v. That means it can be used with the tablet and keyboard on 15v and 5v for any USB device. A while ago I tried using a USB2 extension lead with the short Asus lead, and it only sent 5v to the tablet, which meant it would not charge.

Hmm, need to check the tablet on the car charger to see this. Was using what was apparently bad information from another app telling me tablet voltage was 4.5V while on the dock. Now, off the dock and 95%charged it says 0.01V riiiiight.

oh well, still gonna keep the 5V charger for my smartphone. just have to not run out of power on the road with the tablet, i guess.

Your welcome. I had seen them before on the Amazon UK site so it was an easy search on Amazon.com to find them. I may get one myself in case I need it.

I may decide to get one too. It's always nice to have car charger for a device. :D They can come in very handy.
