The 2.1 Speculation Thread

Speaking of verizon, I got the chance to play with a droid today. Just the screen alone is much much nicer. Don't they have the as many pixels going across as we have going down? Web pages just rendered so much nicer. I would definitely get an N1 or something with similar specs if it came out on Sprint. I don't know about switching to Verizon though.

As I've said before (there must be more than one thread on this ... ;-), June 30 is fine with me, and anything sooner is lagniappe. But in the sprit of useless information, with the hope that this will at least be entertaining for a change, here's a contribution to that end ... #flesheatingrobots

I've picked up the droid. And it just felt...bad. Almost like it went against everything I ever learned about ergonomics.

The feel of a phone in my hands has just as much to do with the functionality of it. If I can't hold the thing comfortably for long periods of time, I'm not going to like it.

accually he's not trolling. he just clicked the link because he thought maybe it was a legit thread......and then noticed your the OP so he just wanted to see what your getting into now...........or at least thats why i did it!

two days and two threads started by you that make no sense. th incredible and the supersonic are two completely different phones, and then from a wiki page you say that we're getting it next month when you really didn't read the article and because you didn't think that our hero(hacked kernel to support cdma) was different from the gsm hero and on top of all that the article was two weeks old

Did I ever claim this to be fact? Nope, sure didnt. all I did was post some new info for others to check out, so get over it already and stay out of my threads if you have a problem with my posts.

...will you be tempted to drop Sprint and switch to Verizon? I sure will be tempted to go back. Add to this the new that the Droid will be getting 2.1 this week and its pretty clear that Verizon seems very interested in Android. Wish Sprint showed that enthusiasm

Want some cheese with that whine

Why not just say what you really want to say..

If I don't get what I want I'll stomp my feet and pout, so there

Is it really worth all of the extra money that Verizon plans cost?

only if you've got to have the top of the line everything, no matter the cost.

That, or if Verizon is the only carrier in your area...then it might be.

Or, if you're still grandfathered in from Alltel, Midwest Wireless before that...THEN it's worth the money, but only because our plan was extremely cheap lol (not compared to the sprint employee pricing though)

Not a chance I would go back to Verizon. Their CS has p..sed me off to many times. They are so arrogant. They were slow to get the Android, slow to get the Pre. If they bought Sprint, I would unfortunately be with them again until I could jump ship. Oh did I mention that I don't care much for Verizon.

can you just stop spamming the boards with these topics ...its all good that you want to share info but no need to keep making new topics for any bit of a rumor you see or read just keep updating your first 2.1 topic

On a side note...get a bigger hammer to fix all problems

If it happens, I'll keep my Hero and upgrade to a far better phone than the N1 in October. Same thing if the Supersonic comes to Sprint before the 2.1 update comes through (and before October).

Not to mention I'll save basically a thousand bucks a year by staying with Sprint, based on Verizon's unlimited everything plan costing about a a hundred bucks a month (might be a little over, no real idea).

I'd much rather have Sprint test the crap out of it and give me an update with virtually no bugs, than release it right away and have people like you complain about all the problems
You're right, the Hero was virtually bug free when it came out.

Except, there was a bug in an app that is used by 99.9% of Hero users (Messages app) that caused them to a) have *way* worse battery life than the already horrible battery life and b) to use a 3rd party messaging app.

Oh yeah, and we couldnt let it go to sleep when turning it on because that'd cause another sweet memory leak. Virtually bug free?

But you're right, Sprint does a great job at "testing the crap" out of their products, when they missed 2 *huge* bugs. I'm fully aware no software is ever bug free (I'm a developer myself), but how on earth do bugs like those that ruin the phones experience get through their "rigorous" testing that takes them so long?

Sorry, but the people at Sprint obviously aren't doing something right.

I didn't say they tested the Hero very well now did I?

I said they're testing the crap out of this update, because I think they might have learned from their mistakes in releasing something early.

Also, that bug wasn't a sprint app, it was an HTC app, which should have been caught by HTC in the first place. Same thing with the memory leak. I also didn't notice any horrible battery life throughout my use of this phone, not by a long shot.

+1 Switching providers for a phone is just silly.
It's not that serious, something better is Always coming out.

No, but your implying that they "test the crap" out of their products when clearly they havent.

And, thanks for proving my point that Sprint doesn't properly test their products, HTC gave them buggy software and Sprint didnt bother fixing it, or atleast sending it back to HTC.

I'm glad you havent been experiencing bad battery life, but me and I'd say a good 50%+ (definately more, but for the sake of being on the safe side) users on this forum alone have.

Again, the Hero isn't a Sprint product, it's an HTC product. Naturally, it would be HTC's job to test their product, and their apps (yes, including the Messaging app), and Sprint's job to test their apps on that product, as well as any other Sprint specific areas. It simply wouldn't make sense economically for Sprint to test areas HTC should have already had tested. Not to mention it was HTC's first Android phone on a CDMA network, there's bound to be quite a few bugs right off the bat.

If HTC had done their job in this case, then Sprint wouldn't have had any reason to test the messaging app.

You'll notice that the Sprint apps actually work pretty well. They're pretty much worthless to most people, but they do work. Why? Because Sprint tested them, and I believe that is what they are working on now. Porting their proprietary apps over to 2.1, making some modifications to those apps (and perhaps adding new ones), and testing on their signals.

If you don't like the damn phone, then why are you still using it and complaining about it?

Besides, it's an Android phone. The thing's designed to be hacked, to be customized, to be optimized, by other people than the manufacturer/carrier.

Whether HTC "should have" fixed their bugs, they didnt. Sprint (I'm assuming) played with the Hero before they released it, and they couldn't catch those bugs? How is it their best economic decision not to test their product? Much more "HTC's first CDMA phone which is bound to have bugs"? C'mon man...

Plus, why are you claiming Sprint is testing the crap out of the software that HTC is sending them (2.1, because in case you didn't know HTC is developing 2.1) if, according to you, its their best economic decision not to?

I'm not complaining, I'm just proving my point. I love this phone, but Sprint's QA team isn't as good as it should be.

Oh, btw, my Hero is rooted, flashed with Fresh 1.1 and has the Gumbo kernel. It cant be any more modified or hacked.

Again, I said Sprint is testing THEIR APPS, such as NFL and Nascar. Not to mention it's entirely possible Sprint is testing everything this time, learning from the previous mistakes with these phones.

It's also economically viable to not test something that has already been tested. HTC tested their parts of the phone before sending it to Sprint (or should have, apparently parts were missed), and then Sprint would have likely tested only their parts in order to get the thing out in a timely matter.

The way people complain on here about the timeline Sprint announced, they should have waited until June 1st to announce the thing was getting an update, then send out the update on June 2nd.

If you have an issue with not being able to use 2.1 right now, then go use one of the dev ROM's, they're pretty good already. And if you think Sprint has an issue with quality control, then go get a job there, and fix it...assuming you have the education background to deal with continuous quality control (I do, just to point that out, not to mention a large background in manufacturing and engineering).

Hey rpnunez, what phone do you have. I don't see any listed under your username, so i take it that you do not have a Sprint Hero. I would appreciate it that you list your phone otherwise I will assume that you are just a troll coming into this forum trying to spam/troll the forum. Developers will tell you that even after thorough testing a bug may surface, and at times a major one at that.
Bottom line, don't troll or your lifespan here will be short lived.

Clearly you'd do a better job than me (with your large background), so why would I go work at Sprint? But I can tell you're very well educated and whatnot... with that being your second smart-mouth comeback. Oh yeah.

Btw, you originally posted that Sprint is "testing the crap" out of 2.1, not SprintTV or Sprint Navigation. You're argument is all over the place.

And, please, I dont want to install a buggy developer ROM on a phone that I use daily for work.

Look, it was nice talking to you, but I have no more interest in continuing this convo. We'll see how 2.1 turns out.

I said "testing the crap out of IT", not 2.1. Don't put words in my mouth (electronically)

I have an HTC Hero. How on earth am I trolling if Ive been talking about my HTC Hero this whole thread...?

But ill put it under my name if that justifies it so much. Lmao.

<- Yay, now I'm not a troll b/c my profile says I have an HTC HERO... rofl.

Are you really going to be that childish? You were reffering to 2.1 as "IT", atleast according to a sane person's understanding of your post.
