Help The 7 Vibrations Issue

Zoko

Lurker
Hi there.

So as the title suggests, my phone is playing up and decides to vibrate 7 times and then display a blank screen instead of booting up. I've tried using the recovery, fastboot and factory reset options in the hboot menu but they all return the same vibrations problem without doing anything. My PC also doesn't seem to acknowledge it when connected through the USB, something about Android 1.0 not being recognised.

It would be useful if I could actually factory reset the phone so I could see if any applications were causing the problem but I can't seem to do that which is annoying.

I know that before this issue occurred, the device itself was pretty hot from both using a very resource intensive app and from being covered up so that suggests it may be an overheating problem. I'm thinking the battery is the main culprit here as the screen functions accordingly and that I could maybe replace it?

Any solutions or points in the right direction would be appreciated. The warranty is past so that is not much help but not sure if I can take into a T-mobile shop or something?

Thanks, newbie.

Hi Zoko, and welcome to AF,

Sorry to hear that. 7 vibrates on an HTC is a very bad sign. In my experience means a motherboard failure, and not something the user can fix.

Sometime you can temporarily get it booting by cooling the phone (eg 20 minutes in the freezer, inside a plastic bag to protect against condensation), but you shouldn't get hopes up - I've heard of people getting phones running for minutes that way, not an actual fix, and there's no promise you'd even get that.

You should at least try pulling the battery out and leaving it out for a while, then see whether anything improves. But as I say "7 vibrates" is generally very bad news.
