Help The application has stopped unexpectedly message on boot

I have a problem on my HTC Incredible by Verizon that just happened to my phone. Last night was the first night I hadn't charged it overnight in months and so I charged it for about two hours this morning and when I turned it on (it had died) I received the message saying The Application taskpad has stopped unexpectedly. The only option was to "force close" it. Once I did, I got a message that said "the application The Weather Channel (process.com.weather.Weather) has stopped unexpectedly. I force closed that and received about 10 more messages stating different applications had stopped unexpectedly. I turned the phone off and back on and had the same issues, though I didn't receive as many messages. I disabled my weather widget and my astrid widget (which were both "empty on boot) and powered off the phone, removed the battery and then re-installed the battery and booted again.
I'm still getting messages about various applications "stopped unexpectedly" every time I boot. Additionally, I got a text this morning and instead of displaying the name of the person that sent the text, it only displayed their phone number. Also more than half of my apps have the generic "android icon" and when I try and launch them I get the message "The linked program is no longer installed on your phone." When I look through my list of applications, those apps are actually gone!
This is a most heinous situation and I am looking for any help you might have. The phone is an Incredible running android 2.2 with a 2gb SD card. I haven't installed any new apps recently other than Google+ that I installed yesterday morning, nor have I done any updates that I recall.

It's a semi common issue when the phone doesn't shut down properly, the memory becomes corrupted(sd and/or internal) causing apps to force close.
The easiest solution to cover all your bases is to do a factory reset and reformat the sd card.

Not what I wanted to hear but I don't guess I get to choose the remedy since I didn't get to choose the affliction. Thanks for the quick reply.
I am currently testing to see if it's only SD card-stored apps that are crashing by uninstalling/reinstalling those that I can.
