The Archos 101 looks interesting

For the most part the difference is the screen size. The 70 is a perfect size IMO if you wanna take it somewhere, whereas the 101 is good for leaving in your living room or on your nightstand. Most of the stats are the same though. They're all on Archos.com if you wanna look.

I have read all about them and am having a tough time deciding between the two. I definitely think portable is what I am after....although not so portable I might as well just use my cellphone. The one thing I really like about the 101 is that it has a full size usb port. Is there a good way around that with the 70? I would like to be able to tether with my Eris without rooting it.

I've read that you can get a cable that will allow you to do that. I'm guessing it's a male micro usb to female usb.

Anyone in australia gotten one of the 70 or 101 yet? I saw a brochure for Vodafone wireless internet today and noticed a $150 for 12Gb for 356 day expiry (as opposed to 30 day expiries on all other offers) which seem pretty damn good for an Australian provider. That's 1Gb / month of wireless mobile internet for about $13/month.

Most people from other countries will laugh that I said that, but this is the situation in Australia that that offer seems rather appealing to me. Most home internet connections you aren't getting change from $70 for internet cost and phone line.

Wondering if the Archos (or any other Android tablets) will work wih these full size USB 3G modems? They're hte sort you usually plug into a laptop to get mobile internet. Never used or had one personally so I don't know how it interfaces with laptops or anyting really.

What the heck, cant even pick up a 70 right now from archos! Whats the deal with that? I thought they had them on their site for a while now.

Any word on the 101 becoming available? It looks like some people have seen it available on the Archos site but i have not been so lucky to catch it in time... ALSO why the delay? Is there something wrong with this thing? Did they not make enough? Is Archos holding it back to send it to us with 2.2(Because their website does say 2.1 with available update late nov)? WHATS GOING ON ARCHOS??? By the way, im a big fan of archos products and yet i have never even seen one physically. They just look so damn good haha. Cheers to you all!!!!

When I get my 70 it'll be the 4th Archos product I've owned. I like their products, mainly because they love doing high capacity products.

So how many of you out there that pre-ordered from Archos.COM got your orders? Im STILL waiting on Archos.CA to GET theirs, before even sending mine out, and im getting a little tired of waiting. Its not a manufacturing thing now...

I ordered mine from Archos.com. It isn't here yet but it is track-able. It will be here Wednesday (I was too cheap to upgrade the shipping or it would've been here today).

Link please, because I can't find it.

I you seach archos 101 on amazon.com, it is there but preorders must be sold out. I had one (16gb) ordered from there (and compusa and jr.com) but cancelled the others once I got shipping confirmation from archos.

Looks like all the pre-orders are sold out. That's ok I guess, as I'd prefer to wait until Archos releases the A101 with Froyo. And it looks like Archos is hopefully trying to get this right, instead of releasing something that's not quote ready for prime time.

Now I'm having second thoughts about this Archos tablet. I hear that once Froyo is released for it, there won't be any other OS updates. Now I realize this is a $300-$350 device, but a 10" Android tablet that won't get Android's upcoming tablet OS?

My income isn't disposable enough to get the latest and greatest when something new comes out, so I'd like to get something that's going to be future OS upgradable. Has anyone heard anything about any other 10" Android tablets coming out? I know about the Viewsonic G tablet, but it loses out to the Archos 101, and upgradability is also in question.

Honestly, at this point in the game, we dont know when 3.0 will be out, and if it will even support devices like this, let alone our devices supporting it.
I wouldnt sweat it. Either buy something now, and enjoy it, and dont worry about having the latest OS (its not going to Break just because something new comes out) if you cant afford to play the game ;) - or wait indefinietly as there will always be something better "in the works"

Well, eBook reading (and the Kindle app) is one of the main reasons I'd get a tablet. Current reports of the A101 show that it has problems with the Kindle app getting cutting off at the bottom, because the A101 uses soft control keys instead of the hardware keys that's on our phones. But I don't know for sure if this is an issue with the Kindle app, or the 101 software.

sounds like its an easy software fix, as long as amazons dev. feel like tackling it.

that's a problem with the 101 firmware, but they will probably fix it as they have already released several firmware patches.

2.2 was released today, but it doesnt have flash built in yet, they will release another version soon with an optimised version of flash built in supposedly.

2.2 broke the market hack as well, but the devs are almost done creating a new version already.

HAha Awesome
cant wait to get mine! I got a tracking number for HotMp3gear so now im just waiting for UPS to get it into their system so i can watch it come to me! then the hacking shall start!

Got mine on Friday. Rooted it, used SetCPU to take it back to 1000MHz. Installed ADW.Launcher and Google apps/market. Played with it all weekend.

Sent it back on Monday.

It's slow. I think Archos really screwed up by only including 256MB RAM, as it always seems like it's running out of headroom. The screen is jerky. Nothing is particularly fluid or works smoothly. Returned it and bought the Viewsonic, which is MUCH better.
