The best camera in the world...

Shot these today in my backyard. There's been tons of aerial activity because of the fire (now up to 250 acres, last I heard).

It's like the helicopter circled back to get a look at the middle-aged woman snapping pics of it! :D

Nice - probably the most useful aircraft built. We just had flocks of them evacuating flooded out towns.

The best I've seen was the Forest Service using a Sky Crane to drop bundles of seed for reforestation after a burn.

I took this a couple of weeks ago with my Galaxy S4. It's a couple of miles north of our home on Hwy 9 heading into the tiny town of Acme, WA. The mountains are the Twin Sisters and just to left of them, in the background, is Mt. Baker, a glaciated volcanic peak in the North Cascades.

Out of curiosity, what cameras do others have?

My favourite is my DSLR as when I get it right, it does get the best results and I believe it could take me a lot further but I can find it too bulky and there's that business of changing lenses... So it's not always the most practical.

I don't get on that well with the Ace 2. It's great as it can always be in my pocket but I can find myself cursing that I can't see the display well enough in sunlight, I'm happier with a view finder (on that, I prefer the still functional 2Mp Olympus C-2 as a snap shot taker) and doesn't have the range of zoom I'd like.

I recently got a "superzoom" Fuji SL1000. It doesn't meet the fit in pocket handiness of the phone nor does is as capable (and I've loads to learn - including the most basic of spotting a good scene - I can take shots and wonder what they were about afterwards...) as the DSLR but for me, I think it's a good compromise. It has become for example the camera I take with me if for example I go for a walk on the local footpaths.

Strange activity in one of the fields btw:

I have a Canon 20D DSLR. I use it when I really want to SEE what I'm doing as it has an optical view finder. I use a Tamron 18 - 270 lens.

I also have the Canon SX50. That has a 1250 telephoto and is used mostly to identify birds rather than photos. It can take decent pics, but some of the specs aren't too good. Most people use a UV filter, I have an N4 on it. The flashes for the 20D also fit it.

Then the Nexus 4. I use that if I want to send a photo. I can just shove it in Dropbox. I also like it for fast videos of the cats. My kid misses the cats.

Took these during a five minute break in a meeting. (Sammy GS3). It struck me, the summer is over.

I have a Canon Rebel XT and mostly use a Canon 75-300 lens. It's served me well over the years, albeit a bit bulky for toting everywhere.
I use my phone for quick pictures of the critters and dogs etc. but when I'm going someplace and will want real pics I grab the Canon.

Cannon DSLR, yadda yadda yadda, but I still prefer shooting 35 mm black and white with this as my favorite lens -

And of course my HTC Evo 4G LTE.

But I'll use anything. I ended up at Mt. Fuji unexpectedly and empty handed one day - so I bought a disposable 35 mm and made do.

I'm mobile, so to keep on topic, here's that silly cannon again. :D

And I have a few good ones from the coffee shop coming...

I still have my old Canon Rebel G kicking around, and my most favorite Canon Elan 7e. Haven't busted them out in a long while though.
Just snapped this to see what this Moto X will do...I zoomed in a bit. No post processing.

I tried a 75-300 lens. It wasn't bad until we hit Canyon de Chelly. I wanted a picture of Spider Butte, and just couldn't do it. I had everything in a photo backpack on the bike. Couldn't bring much.

Did the same with a Canon 50-200. Wanted a pic of Courthouse towers in Arches, couldn't get the whole thing in. Did get some decent stuff with the SX50.

Went back to the 18-270.

I have a 28-135 too, I like the range but it's sometimes slow to focus and can be fuzzy every now and again. The 75-300 is quicker and sharper, but does have it's limitations depending on the circumstance. Not buying any new lenses though so will just muddle with what I have.

I have a Nikon S3300 Point & Shoot camera that I do not use as often since I don't carry it everywhere I go. Most shots I take comes from my phone's camera, in day light it takes pretty good pictures. All pictures I posted in this thread are using the phone cam!

On my Pentax DSLR, I most commonly have a Sigma 50-200. I also have a Sigma 70-300 but it's bulkier and I seem to find that I'm more likely to want 50-70 than 200-300.

Musicians at Java Joe's yesterday - some of you may recognize the gentleman on the right, he plays in Oregon, the UK and Denmark, teaches dance and music at our local college this semester.

The drum has strings around the perimeter, he hugs it to change the pitch and it has a surprisingly wide range.

The xylophone is homemade and there are hollow gourds lining the bottom, producing rich, luscious sounds.

Photo extracted from the video, a piece is in my Dropbox if you want to sample the sound. If anyone likes, I'll PM details on how to buy their CD, or post it here if people like.

And for the fun of it, I've just stuck batteries in the old CM-2 and taken a picture of the cat that was on the PC monitor in my first pic in this thread.

This thread is amazing. :) I'm really impressed with its photos, some for their amazing photographic qualities and some for their sweetness or sentimental qualities.

I have two DSLR Nikons, a D40 and a D5100. The latter is by my side pretty much all the time, and I almost always keep my 70-300mm lens on it. That's what I take the photos with that I use on products in my photography shop...or, I should say, that I USED to use...I haven't done any actual work for a long time. Before my mom died, I was too wrapped up in caring for her, and since she died I just haven't felt like it! One of these days I'm going to spend a LOT of time plodding through the thousands of photos I've taken since the last time I did any work. A DAUNTING task to say the least.

Getting back to the beautiful pics in this thread, I'd like to suggest that people think about setting up their own shops at CafePress, Zazzle, or other POD (print on demand) online shops. There's zero overhead in terms of inventory, as they do everything (printing, shipping, billing, etc.), so you can experiment with putting some of your pics on products and see if they sell. Or buy them for yourselves or as gifts. I have this framed print [of my favorite peacock] on my wall; it's from CafePress:

This is not the best shot taken, but it's showing how pictures turn out using the Nikon S3300.

Konica full-on manual is sitting in a closet, has been forever. That actually took awesome pictures, Konica made some excellent lenses back in the day.

Konica had a pretty good little digital years ago. Too bad they went out of the camera business. They still do copiers, etc.

Gentle reminder that the purpose of this is to share cool pictures with meaning to ourselves.

Camera talk is cool, after all, this is the Lounge - but the premise remains:

There actually is a best camera in the world.

It's the one you have on you when the moment happens that you need to capture. ;) :)
