Root The Difference?

it's really just personal preference. Either you like sense and it's features or you don't. Basically if you like to use some of the other launchers in the market (adw, launcherpro etc..) you might as well use a senseless rom. But again doesn't really matter either way.

OK, I think my questions might be misunderstood. I do not know the difference and that is what I am asking. Hence, "What is the difference between sense and senseless?. I am also interested in finding out the the advantages are between the two.

sense is the default...theme?..i guess thats what it would be called, that your phone came with. along with all the sense widgets the bottom bar that has the phone, menu, and + buttons. A senseless phone would look the way any other android phone would like an x or D2. Its really a personal preference as neither is really better performance wise but i like the way HTC Sense looks and feels so i choose to keep that on my Inc.

This is half correct. The DROID X and 2 also run modified versions of Android with the Motoblur interface. Sense is really just a launcher that is integrated into Android rather than running on top of Android (as it should). A lot of people like Sense because it's pretty while others prefer Vanilla Android which has less features, but also has less overhead.

Personally, I've had nothing but problems with Sense OOTB and ROMs. I had to factory reset at least three times before finally switching to a Vanilla ROM.

I just realized I didn't answer the OPs initial question. A Sense ROM is a similar, but sometimes modified version of the interface used on a stock Incredible (or other Htc device). A Senseless ROM is basically the same as a Sense ROM except most of the shiny pretty HTC apps, widgets, and interface are removed and replaced with stock Android stuff. Finally there are AOSP ROMs, which are plain old no frills Android without all of the extra crap Sense provides.

AOSP ROMs are untouched by manufacturers and are the purest form of Android, though some are tweaked a bit (Cyanogen & MIUI).

I'm curious about this too, and still not quite sure of the answer.

So, in senseless, do you still have home screens that slide left and right? There are no buttons on the bottom?

Senseless ROMs generally look and function like vanilla Android, but sometimes retain some of the Sense functionality. Any ROM can be customized to look how you want by using an alternative launcher (ADW and LauncherPro).
