Desire gets a dire score because of the length of time it took to update and patch Android flaws.

Google should be patching old versions of Android as well as making shiny new versions for top end phones.
A lot of people will continue to use these phones after end of life and it risks damaging the Android ecosystem and bad PR.

That's not right. It was released with 2.1, and I had to wait ages for Orange to roll out froyo. I remember how excited I was when it finally came... "ooh, apps2sd! 5 x speed! Wifi hotspot!"

I never really noticed a five times increase in speed

1. All. os' come out of support at some time.

2. It's nothing to do with Google in the case of the desire. It's HTC who didn't release a cdma 2.3.3 and (as even the article states) its carriers who further delay releases.

Look how long us cellular took to release 2.2. I.think you still have to go in store to get that update.

This is NOT Googles fault and they cannot be responsible for patching all old versions of android forever (even though they actually did) so please let's not get into what Google should do until we all understand what they actually do do </rant>
