Help The dreaded bootloop...

acrebo

Newbie
For a reason unknown, this morning, my phone decided to entertain me by showing me its pretty colours over, and over, and over, and over...

Now, I don't think that this caused by connecting to WiFi because I was using it on WiFi fine and it was only when I plopped it on my bed to get ready for work that it freaked out and started rebooting over and over again.

Problem is, when I press all three buttons together to get into the recovery mode, and then select 'recovery mode' in order to perform a factory reset, all I get is the lil' Android dude on his back with his chest open and an '!' for a few minutes and then the phone just goes back to the bootloop.

So, my question is essentially "is there any other way of factory resetting if I can't do it that way or via the 'settings' function? Is it best just to trudge to the shops on Saturday and get a replacement?

:(

I'd try a battery pull before a factory reset. Yank the battery, let it sit for a few minutes, put it back in and see what happens.

Do you get any listed devices when typing "fastboot devices" into a command window?

In addition to the above, I've just read that I need to first download the file to enable a restore? This would explain why nothing happens when I select it!

The problem is, because of how fast the phone is continuously rebooting, I never have the temporary drive accessible on my PC for long enough to drop the file in before it disappears as my phone turns off and on again!

Rereading the OP, is it possible you plopped it hard enough to possible loosen the battery cover? If so there may be an inconsistent battery connection?

Just a thought;).

Tried that on and off throughout the day mate; makes no difference. My first thought was, as you say, a dodgy connection but it's not that.

Nope, nothing.

is your phone rooted? Also is this a GSM or LTE model?

Totally standard GSM model mate. I've had a search on here with regards to rooting but don't really want to attempt it as a way to reboot if it still doesn't work and then I have a rooted phone that I need to return!

Think the wife is going to take it into the store tomorrow and see what they say.... if they're sending it off for "fixing" then they can damn well give me a replacement while they do it!

Can you get into download mode and use Odin?

Um...maybe if there were an idiot's (aka ex-iPhone user) guide available!?

Download mode is reached by turning the phone off. Then hold the voldown and power button. Here is a link to Odin.

Make sure you properly read and understand the process before continuing. It is fairly simple, but if done wring may have very bad consequences

I'm sure there is:D, let me hunt around for you. BTW, I had Androids for 2+ years before I tried ADB:o, so you are way ahead of me.

edit: Namrak beat me to it. Thanks.

Sounds like a problem that I had with my first GSM Galaxy Nexus. About 10 days with it and working flawlessly, one morning decided to bootloop. I concluded that it was corrupted flash memory because if I did have time to delete an app for example, then rebooted the phone, the app was still there. Also flashing anything wouldn't work. nothing you can do about that sadly.

Try putting your phone into fastboot mode, then using fastboot oem unlock to see if it wipes it.

Sorry for the delay guys, another long day at work without my phone! The wife took it into the store today and they've sent it off for "repair". Not particularly surprised that they didn't have the first clue what to do with it.

I was tempted to try and sort it myself but I fear that warranties are very dodgy ground sometimes and the slightest user-interaction can invalidate all kinds of clauses! So, I'm having to search out an ancient handset for a couple weeks whilst mine gets sorted.

I'll let you know what comes back!
